The new lobby bar, restaurant and espresso bar is great

It was full, we checked in late and the room we had was fine, but could use a little upgrade

"BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS!!!"

2.0

Husband and I attempted to book a room here back in September. The lobby is very clean and well decorated, giving the impression that you are about to stay in a decently kept hotel. However, problems began immediately at check-in. Upon arrival, the manager tried telling us that we canceled our reservation one week prior (we obviously did not and had already been charged). Based on my experience in hotels and the number of reviews here citing this very issue, this is a common scam tactic to charge guests twice. After showing him receipts, the manager then “fixed” the problem and moved our room. We got our room and no longer than *one hour* into our stay we made a horrifying discovery: an adult male bed bug darted into my husband’s wallet while he was simply sitting on top of the covers on one of the beds. He shook the bed bug out of the wallet, we spotted where it fell on the floor and killed it. We picked it up in a paper towel from a roll we had with us from a picnic and my husband immediately brought it to the front desk to tell the manager that we are leaving and to request a refund while I hurriedly loaded our luggage back into the car. The manager’s response was… disturbing. First, when my husband showed him the bed bug, the manager attempted to convince him that it wasn’t a bed bug but rather fly larvae (it undeniably WAS a bed bug, see photos). Next, the manager repeatedly attempted to GRAB the bed bug right out of my husband’s hand. The insanity and unprofessionalism had only just begun. The manager then followed my husband all the way back to the back of the motel where our room was and demanded us to show him a blood spot on the floor where we had killed the bed bug. We showed him the fresh blood spot. Then he demanded we show him the paper towel roll we brought with us to see if it matched the one the bug was in. We showed him, it matched. His response was, “you’re pulling my leg” like it was all some big prank just to trick him? He said he needed to check the security camera footage to see whether I had brought paper towels in or out of the room. I said, “go ahead, check now.” He said, “uhh I can’t I’m very busy.” I guess he finally accepted that it was in fact a bed bug because he then tried telling us that “bed bugs are normal, all hotels have them all the time.” LOL. He then proceeded on some paranoid spiral to accuse us of “scamming” him, saying that we traveled across multiple states with a dead bug in a folded up paper towel in our car just so we could get a free stay at his scummy hotel. I have no idea how he came to this conclusion considering WE DID NOT STAY THE NIGHT and reported the problem IMMEDIATELY after discovering the infestation and were leaving right away. We explained this to him. He didn’t seem to listen or care that he wasn’t making any sense. He said “people like us” are always traveling with bugs to scam him with and that he didn’t believe we were actually from out of state (what?!). He argued, verbally abused, and treated us like criminals standing outside in the cold for around 40 minutes. He did not apologize even once for our horrific experience. He was EXTREMELY condescending, smug, and downright cruel. The manager’s behavior, coupled with the last minute room change, indicates to me that he already knew very well of an out of control bed bug infestation that he has no intention of dealing with. He made no attempt resolve the issue in any way. Although he verbally agreed to refund us at one point, we have received NO REFUND and he effectively stole the hundreds we paid for the three nights of our booking. After some research, I’ve discovered that the hotel was recently sold off at the beginning of this year, and it is clear that these new owners simply DO NOT CARE about this place or their guests in the slightest. There has been NO resolution and my experience with Taos Valley Lodge has been the single most traumatic and horrific customer service I have ever seen in my entire life.

"Good Place to Stay in Taos"

8.0

This is a great place to stay in Taos. First, I want to commend Scott for his excellent service. He was our waiter a couple of times in the restaurant, but he also gave us great advice on a place to stay in Albuquerque. Scott is a valuable employee who understands that there is more than just delivering food. The decor in the food area is really very nicely done. The room itself was fine (nothing fancy, but clean), and the location of the facility is great for getting around to various sites in the area.
