Phoenix Marriott Resort Tempe at The Buttes

This resort has high end accommodations and the views are so amazing, as the entire resort is carved out of rock. Be prepared to do a lot of walking to the restaurant, pool and other amenities, if your room is at the end of the long hallway, but we liked getting our steps in without having to leave the resort. The rooms, pool area and whole property is pristine and so clean and the service is excellent. We had a large room with a walk out patio which was plenty of room for just the 2 of us. The only reason I did not give this a 5-star review is because of the sluggishness of the lobby restaurant and takeout breakfast area. As no free coffee is provided by Marriott in the lobby, there was a huge long line in the morning for coffee at the takeout market and they were understaffed. The lobby restaurant with outside patio area has great food, but it took over an hour and a half to be served dinner. A large high capacity resort should do better with the in-house dining, but we had nothing but great things to say about this hotel property!

We love this place. Beautiful lobby, amazing clifftop patio with views over the city. The pool area is awesome, we love how the seating is spread out for privacy. Multiple food and drink options. The rooms are probably the worst part, nothing fancy about them. They are somewhat recently renovated. But you come here for all the other spaces. We love to stay here when we arrive in town, even just for a night to relax before heading north. It’s a great price for a beautiful location, and close to the airport.

Absolutely awful experience at this hotel. Drove 6 hours and checked in around 7:30pm only to be welcomed to a hotel room that had a very bad odor. Asked to switch rooms but was told the hotel was at full occupancy. Their solution was to have housekeeping clean the room. Appeared to be a reasonable solution given the circumstances. So although it was an inconvenience I was agreeable. Then as soon as I returned to the room, I saw a huge bug scampering across the bright white comforter. This was not an ordinary bug - this was some sort of desert enigma. I screamed- my son screamed and ran out of the room! I tried getting it off the bed but it clung on with stubborn will. Finally got it off the cover and saw it race under the bed. Fortunately I was able to throw my shoe on it. Called the front desk for new sheets which didn’t arrive for over an hour. So much for a relaxing start to our trip- my son won’t go to sleep for fear of bugs crawling on him. Don’t let the bed bugs bite is a real thing at this Marriott.

Truthfully was not impressed. I stayed here on business and have felt cleaner in other hotels than this. We ran into some plumbing mishaps and had to be switched to an accessible room - totally not a big deal - it happens, but there were left over socks and corners that we could tell were not cleaned/dusted. I didn't love the idea of using one of their towels to wipe my face. They seemed a bit dingy in my opinion. The shower curtain was also rusted at the bottom - again normal, but for the price tag this hotel seems to have, I feel that should be something resolved. Food and bars were okay. Views were pretty but mostly of highways. Staff was above friendly.

The Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes is a hidden gem. A beautiful resort centrally located in Tempe, 15 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes away from downtown Tempe. With spectacular views of the city, an amazing pool, and great dining, I highly recommend this resort. Special thanks to Khushi, Indri, and Ayu for the world class service I received. Nice location nestled among foothills a few blocks from the city streets. Small older resort with some charm scenic views. Not far from the airport.

Facilities were well maintained but dated making the price a bit high.

The slide closes at 6:00 p.m. which seems way too early, especially when the sign posted says open until "dusk". The sun doesn't set until 8 p.m. in the summer and the slide itself was disappointing. My daughter went down and she was stopped at the very end. She literally had to jump off the slide to get into the pool. Marriott can do better.
