Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz

We stayed a total of 3 nights at this hotel and found it to be well situated near Bryggen and good quality rooms, service and breakfast. We chose to take light rail from the airport to downtown but then discovered it was a long walk (with luggage to arrive at the hotel, so we took a cab to the hotel from the end of the light rail). In retrospect, it would have been much easier and only a bit more expensive to take a cab directly from the airport. We were greeted at the registration desk by a person who spoke excellent English and had our room ready for us. The room had several windows but we saw no air conditioning thermostat. The outside temperature was very comfortable and this was not a problem for us. The only peculiarity of rooms is the bathtub. I would estimate the edge of the tub to be 30-34 inches above the floor. I measured ours at home at it is only 18”. It was easy to sit on the edge of the tub and slide into the tub to take a shower, but it did require a “balancing act.” Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. It rivals some of the best we have found anywhere in Europe. 2 large dining rooms provide sufficient seating for a large number of guests. Breakfast choices included, breads, croissants, meats, fruits, cheese, fish, sausage, beans, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon, and cereals. (I’m sure something has been omitted but will add photos so you can make your own observations. One detail, if you are in the “overflow room” ask for directions on how to use the coffee machine. You need to put a packet into the slot and then pull the handle down. I found it to actually be fun to work the coffee machine. A few words regarding the location of the hotel. It is only a block above Bryggen (the Old Hansa part of Bergen). We found it convenient to exit the front door, take a right and then walk down the ramp to the beginning of Bryggen. Our walk took less than 2 minutes to get to the waterfront. Walk up the ramp, turn right at the street and then a few blocks and you are at the Floibahn (funicular to the top of the mountain). In summary, you will find Bergen hotels at a cheaper price, but it would be hard to equal the quality of food and location of hotel. The staff was excellent and we will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Bergen.

Breakfast buffet outstanding

Great location and great breakfast. Everything close to hand. Loads of nearby restaurants suiting all tastes. Bergen…what a lovely town! Great place to stay ahead of our Havila voyage.

This was a really comfortable stay in a well located hotel. Front desk staff was nice and was a good five minute walk to the water and everything you would want to see in Bergen.

Booked 2 nights in a business room, appreciated the extra space as most of the rooms we stayed on this trip were on the small side. However the bathroom was too small for our liking. There was supposed to be “upgraded amenities” in the bathroom, but not sure exactly what it comes with cause it seemed pretty standard to me. Bathroom floor was cold and I found it strange that wasn’t heated, as all the hotels we stayed in Norway have heated floors. Turns out there is a switch under the sink that I didn’t see until the last night, and it was turned off. Room was on the 2nd floor literally next to the lifts, and we could hear it going up and down all night. Breakfast was nice and had decent spread, recommend going down early as it can get pretty busy.

Room was nice, excellent bed and linens, but somewhat small bathroom and not so great towels. Location was very convenient. Had a nice lobby bar with comfortable seating options. Breakfast was expansive and excellent!
