Great hotel, clean, seems fresh. Comfortable bed. Close to everything very close to train station but still quiet. Nice atmosphere.

"Adequate for what I paid"

It mainly falls down to the location for me. Its central to tramline that can get you into the CBD or to get to the MCG easily. It's also central to Southern Cross Station, a bunch of restaurants, Woolworths, Spencer Street DFO etc. Depending on what you pay for, is what you get. I stayed in the classic area, so the stairs can be a bit of a pain, same with two different lift arrangements, but that's the layout of the building and you are warned. I was happy with my 'sort of corner room' by the emergency stairwell, meaning only one neighbour to deal with (in case there is noise). Aircon system worked perfectly when needed (cold and heat).

As I said, you pay for what you get, my trip was a bit last minute for the footy, but I still had a decent nights sleep. The windows are filthy (probably more on the exterior of the building) and the general feel for the size of the actual room and bathroom, though adequate is tight. I would not be comfortable if I shared it with a partner.
