Da Mary Guest House

Excellent location for a short city break (4 nights in March) just a couple of minutes walk from Teatro Massimo and about ten minutes walk from Fontana Pretoria. For anyone taking the airport bus to get to Palermo city, note that the Politeama stop (8th stop) is the closest one for Teatro Massimo. You might not hear the driver say the stop name clearly, so just count till the 8th stop. A lift from the lobby takes you right to the guest house doorway on the third floor. It looks like the guest house was once a large family apartment and now it has about 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (both with WC) with a central hallway. I received a very friendly welcome from Mary and her husband and everything was explained and understood, languages were not a barrier. The bedroom was very spacious with a couple of spare electric sockets and a balcony. Instead of curtains you lower and raise the external blinds using the band at the side of the window (press down on the metal bit at the bottom to lower them). The wifi speed was very good (about 50 Mbps download speed if I remember right). I had brought my own mug and travel kettle but I noticed that in the hallway there were some cups and a glass electric kettle for guests to use, together with several jars of drinking water and even a box of complimentary wafers. The fridge worked and was useful to keep dairy products in. I didn't need to use the vending machine or coffee machine but they were available as well. Everywhere was clean and fresh during my stay. I sensed that Mary is very proud of her guest house and is always trying to make improvements.

Nothing. Everything was as described so there were no surprises.

Good value for money given the location and size of the bedroom.

Easy walking to most facilities. Shopping and cafeterias very close. Mostly quiet area because not much traffic.

Sometimes too much music outside on the streets.

The location of the property was fantastic and very central. The property was clean & tidy. The facilities were excellent. The property was very safe & quiet. The staff were very friendly and polite. The property was very good value for money. Access to public transport was good. Mary made me feel very welcome and comfortable at all times. I was given a key for the building entrance, apartment door & bedroom door. I could come and go as I pleased. I could not have chosen a better location for my stay, I was just very lucky to have booked with Mary.

I honestly did not feel like anything was wrong at all. You get what you pay for and if I'm being honest I couldn't have for anything more for the fantastic price I paid. Mary does not speak much English though so use Google translate on your phone and everything will run very smoothly.

Da Mary guest house is in the most fantastic location. A few minutes walk to the Politeama area, the shopping district and Massimo Theatre. Lots of eateries nearby. You can easily walk to the old section of Palermo too and the market areas.Polermo is a very vibrant and walkable city. The accommodation is on the 3rd floor in a security block, serviced by a lift. The photos of the property are accurate. No frills. But the position and the price are the true selling points. Mary is a gorgeous lady, who is contactable via WhatsApp if you have an issue. The rooms are clean and spacious. A shuttle bus to the airport (which cost 6 euro, tickets from Tabacchi shops) had a stop at Politeama, right in front of the Prada store, opposite Garibaldi Theatre, 6 mins walk away from da Mary Guest House. Make sure you eat canolli in the garden, at St Caterina church. Look for Segreti del Chiostro and eat gelato at Primo Canto, on Via Maqueda. I would stay at da Mary Guest House again.

good location, good value for money I only learnt on the second trip there was a fridge we could use, this cud have been pointed out initially!
