If scientists discovered a way to crossbreed a Motel 6 and a Super 8, then spliced into that DNA the prolific, many-offspring-producing instincts of the North American opossum, they might produce something not unlike what already exists at the Alexis Park Hotel in Las Vegas—a sprawling collection of what feels like dozens of motel-sized buildings spread across a surprisingly massive footprint. Conveniently located about a mile and a half off the Strip and just a stone’s throw from Harry Reid International Airport—close enough that planes routinely pass a few hundred feet overhead—there is almost nothing wrong with this place. It’s a place to sleep: adequately sized rooms, relatively updated motel-style decor, functional amenities, and everything you need for a no-frills, just-covering-the-basics stay in Vegas. And while “almost nothing wrong” is technically a compliment, it’s worth noting there’s almost nothing particularly right, either. For our purposes—traveling for our daughter’s dance competition, which was conveniently held in the hotel’s convention space—it did exactly what we needed it to do. My one real issue, and the sole reason I dropped my rating a notch below its otherwise consistent mediocrity, is how the hotel handles internet access. Their website advertises “free Wi-Fi,” which is technically true. But the free tier is advertised as “up to 5 Mbps” and, in reality, consistently delivered somewhere between 0.75–2.25 Mbps in repeated tests on Speedtest—barely functional for anything beyond basic messaging. If you want speeds that feel remotely modern, you’ll need to pay $12.99 per day. That alone would be frustrating. But the situation in the convention center takes it to another level entirely. Even as a hotel guest, the standard Wi-Fi does not work in the convention space, which runs on a completely separate network. Compounding that, there is little to no cellular signal in the building—enough, maybe, for the occasional text to sneak through, but not enough to reliably load a webpage. The result is that if you’re attending an all-day event—like, say, a dance competition—you are effectively cut off from the outside world unless you pay for their premium convention Wi-Fi: $24.95 for one hour or $89.95 for four hours. At this point, it stops feeling like a limitation and starts feeling intentional. In most of the U.S., internet access is no longer constrained by infrastructure, nor is it prohibitively expensive for businesses to provide at usable speeds. Here, however, the system appears deliberately designed to funnel guests into paying for connectivity—whether by offering a “free” tier that is barely usable, or by isolating high-traffic areas onto a separate network where outside options (like cellular data) are effectively eliminated. At the Alexis Park Hotel, internet doesn’t feel like a service—it feels like a revenue strategy. More minibar than utility. And like any minibar, it only really works because, in that moment, you don’t have another choice. I can’t say no one should stay here. If you show up with properly calibrated expectations—and make peace with the idea that the internet is more of a concept than a service—you’ll find it has everything you need, and almost nothing you want.

Location is GREAT!!!! We got a Jacuzzi Suite and it was HUGE!!!! We also saw the Motown Show on the premises and it was AWESOME!!!!

I liked the fact it was dog friendly and well-located. The bed was clean and comfortable!
