This particular hotel is beautiful and extremely well kept.

The Mayflower Hotel is a wonderful and historic hotel right in the heart of DC, just around the corner from The White House. When you walk into the hotel, you are amazed by the grandeur of the 1920s design, which is still impressive today. The rooms are large and well-appointed, with everything you need for your stay. The wallpaper with signatures from past guests is a nice touch. There are four elevators in reception, which can sometimes have a little wait, but nothing excessive (and far better than some much larger and much newer hotels in New York!). Before visiting, I emailed the hotel to ask about their 100th anniversary events and was put in touch with Shelly, the General Manager. Not only did Shelly answer all of my questions, but she was also really helpful when discussing our plans for our time in DC, and even recommended The People's House, as I had mentioned that we couldn't get a tour of The White House. This wasn't something we'd heard of, so we would have definitely missed it if Shelly hadn't suggested it! When we got to our room, there was also a note from Shelly, which was a really nice touch! Most staff were friendly and helpful on all occasions, apart from two staff in Edgar Bar who were a little rude when we wanted to sit in there for a drink on our final day.

Booked a res at the Mayflower Hotel in DC for 5 nights. I was granted my request to use 5 NUA's. We were excited to be spending the time in a nice hotel in a good section of DC and to be given a 1 bedroom suite via our NUA's. Unfortunately the room they gave us (Room 666...no kidding) had windows on two sides (nice) but the blinds were down and very little light was getting into the room. We raised the blinds and there were two brick buildings blocking the light. It was the darkest room I've ever been in. At over $400 per night my wife and I decided to continue our vacation at another hotel. The staff was nice and only charged me for 2 nights but could do nothing about returning the 3 remaining suite nights to my account. I appealed to corporate who turned down my appeal. It's late in the year so I may not have used them anyway but it just places one more nail in the Marriott loyalty coffin for us as rooms have only gotten tougher to earn and corporate has become greedier. Looking for another card at this point. We've had some great rooms as a Platinum member and earlier as a Lifetime Gold (20+ years) but I think our loyalty romance may be coming to an end soon if I find another hotel card (any suggestions appreciated). I may begin concentrating my efforts on airline cards again..we'll see.

We had a beautiful suite for our staycation and enjoyed the experience. The hotel has amazing historical significance and we toured the 2d floor photo gallery.

Friendly staff. Place was a dump though, should be called the Brownflower
