Masseria Santa Lucia

Superb. You drive through a comercial center but one through the gates it's amazing. The attention to detail of the whole site is excellent. Staff very friendly too. One thing to note it looks like you could walk to old town Matera but you'll need to drive, however there is a car park right on the edge of the old town so no problem.

I must say it was a truly delightful experience. This hotel is a hidden gem, located just a 9-minute drive away from the historical town of Matera. The service at Masseria Santa Lucia was nothing short of exceptional; staff made us feel incredibly welcome. The attention to detail and genuine care they exhibited truly made a difference in creating a memorable experience. One of the standout features of this hotel is the historic building itself, which exudes charm and character. The rooms, designed in a cave-like fashion, perfectly blend the historical elements with modern comfort. The attention to preserving the historical character while providing all the necessary amenities was impressive. It felt like stepping back in time while still enjoying the conveniences of contemporary accommodations. The hotel's pool area deserves special mention as it is absolutely gorgeous. Breakfast was included in our stay, which was delicious with a lot of options. Thank you so much !

Truly one of the most beautiful hotels I have experienced. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The rooms, pool, and restaurant are top quality. And the staff is great, working diligently to meet your needs. My highest commendation to Andrea, and thank you to all staff. We look forward to coming again, hopefully soon!

Lovely hotel, pleasant and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, even had a supermarket conveniently close

The pros; the place is beautiful and the pool is fab if the weather is in your favour, especially after a day walking around the town. The room was huge and clean, very comfortable bed. The onsite restaurant is good. The staff are super helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Drinks are a good price. The cons; the room was very warm at night and the air con only seems to blow warm air, so not the best night's sleep. Also the shower was really bad water pressure, difficult to have a good shower. Breakfast was very poor, there is a lot of room for improvement there.

Bella struttura, personale gentile, cibo ottimo, colazione abbondante, parcheggio in loco, camere spaziose. Raccomandato!

Veramente un gran bel posto !

This was an interesting and lovely place seemingly carved out of limestone stone similar to what you see in the city of Matera. It dates to the mid-1700s and was a grain or flour mill of some sort. The hotel is modern and the in-site parking was very welcome. The pool looked lovely but it rained all day when we were there for a 2-night stay so we did not get to enjoy it. The restaurant, Basquiat, which is independent of the hotel was excellent. We ordered the rib steak and it was truly the best steak I have ever had - so tender and buttery. Here is the drawback - knowing that it is sometimes hard to find restaurants open on Mondays in Italy, one of the reasons I selected this place was the on-site restaurant because our stay included a Monday. We were therefore disappointed to find that it was closed on Mondays and we did not want to take the car into the tourist area of Matera where we were told we would find open restaurants so we just brought back half our pizza from lunch and bought a bottle of wine from the reception/bar. Stay here for the steak!

This Masseria is located at about 10 min driving distance from the city center. It’s a convenient location, with supermarkets and gas stations nearby and close to the highway too. The place is great, an old building with lots of history behind that was renovated and converted into a hotel/guest house, with a beautiful outdoor pool and garden. Unfortunately, I found the management very inexperienced - except for Enzo at reception, who went above and beyond our expectations from the day we arrived, offering plenty of good suggestions for places to visit, restaurants and shops and always ready to help and make us feel welcome. The rest of the staff is either very young or does not seem prepared for the task they are up to. They also have a restaurant inside, managed by other owners, where we did not have a good experience at all. We had dinner there one evening. The food options were very limited (and did not reflect that was on the menu), the food was average and the service seemed improvised. When we paid the waiter summed up our bill with a manual calculator and couldn’t even remember the prices of the dishes in the menu (he was looking at a hard copy of it) - something I found hilarious and have never seen before! Also, bad price-quality relation - you can get something much better for better price in Matera. Overall, OK rooms and apartments, although not perfectly clean, and OK breakfast too. However, I would not go back to this Masseria as I am sure there are better places in Matera for the same price. A pity considering the beautiful location they have!
