Hamtramck Hostel

Extremely dirty, absolut disgusting Linen was not changed from last person. Dog was there and just went in the rooms. It was smelling really bad. The dog was barking at the people arriving and one time even puked in the hallway. The service was so bad. I had extremely heavy, luggage and asked did I can stay in a room in first level to not need to carry the luggage up the tight stairs. No, was not possible. But the rooms were empty for all of my stay

Friendly staff, good comfort and facilities. Great iconic halal restaurants nearby, a comedy club, and very close (by car) to downtown Detroit.

Parking could be tough to find in the neighbourhood. It was a little dustier than last time I stayed but definitely not atrocious or anything. Also, a smoother check-in process for those without a US phone plan would be nice.

Really comfy, clean hostel with friendly residents. Fun neighborhood to explore, we got to catch the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival while we were there.

There’s nothing wrong with this hostel - friendly, cheap, reasonably clean - it’s a hostel. The reason for the average review is that the main entrance door to the building is self closing, and every time someone enters or exits it slams, which is extremely loud in the rooms. Any decent human would notice this the first time, and close it softly thereafter. During my stay, some lovely soul was in and out all night, letting the door slam EVERY TIME. Hopefully the management can address this (a relatively minor repair), because otherwise I have no complaints.

Was meant to be staying here for five nights left after one. Place is absolutely filthy and not safe especially for a solo female traveller. First room I was given was downstairs, with a window and a curtain that would barely stop people seeing in. Was then moved upstairs to a room that had dirt and crisps on the floor and the trash can wasn’t even emptied. Even for a hostel this is really bad. Tried to speak to owner was just given a phone number to contact him on but no response

Staff were talking loudly in midnight even though they have rules of being quiet after 11pm. The bright was cooking at midnight.

Stayed for a night to go to a show a few blocks away. Staff was super friendly, parking was easy, and there were quite a few bars and restaurants within walking distance.

This place is so cute! The people who run are super welcoming. I’ll be back when I’m Detroit again
