Hotel Monteleone, New Orleans

Fri to sun stay, wake up sat and no hot water. Multiple calls to the front desk and each time it was temporary or just fixed and told to give it some time. Sunday morning we had cold showers before check out. Not a pleasant experience. Come by check out the carousel bar and have a drink but stay somewhere else.

Lovely hotel in the FQ. Easy to walk everywhere. We booked mainly because of the Carousel Bar. Luckily, we tried it the night we arrived mid week, and didn’t need to wait long for seats. Drinks and food were great and it is a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, our last night, which was a Friday, getting near the Carousel or the regular bar was impossible because of non-hotel guests. It remained that way all evening and was quite a disappointment. If this is the main reason you are booking at this hotel, it’s good to know this in advance!

This hotel is in heart French quarter- great history BUT rooms small, furniture “tired” with stains: chips. Keep in mind the famous carousel bar is open to public -SO lobby is crazy busy with traffic and when you order your uber may have many others on narrow street as public hangs out at bar. - they come and go constantly. The staff ( bell/ housekeeper/ parking attendants) were polite. The worst part / no hot water for over 24 hours and we were there for a wedding. Reception staff initially on first call said / on 5 minutes; then second call 45 minutes later -“ need to let water run - no - never did have hot water for showers etc. after 3 rd call they stopped answering calls as this loss of hot water affected entire tower. They offered no alternatives . So keep in mind it’s an old hotel with infrastructure ( HVAC, boilers) very antiquated. Have no plans to return to hotel.

Hotel Monteleone is an outstanding hotel in the heart of the French Quarter. From the moment you walk in till you unfurtunately have to leave, you will treated by the friendliest staff in the city. We have stayed here many times over the years and each experience has been outstaning. From the Service by the staff, the Carousel Bar and Carillo elevated experience, to the awesome Aria spa, it is all wonderful. Highly recommend.

The service at Hotel Monteleone is outstanding. I have never felt so taken care of as I did when staying here. The staff take such care and consideration when working with guests, and there is genuine kindness behind the service given.

We had a wonderful breakfast dining experience at Criollo at the Hotel Monteleone, and a huge part of that was our amazing server, Kathy. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for—not in an overbearing way, but with exactly the right mix of warmth, professionalism, and attentiveness. It was easy to see that she enjoyed interacting with the guests. We had such a great time with her, we went back again the next morning. Thank you for taking care of us, Kathy!

This location was recommended to us. We were told to see Kathy. Kathy in the restaurant was AMAZING! Great food. Great atmosphere! The experience was stellar!

We actually stayed at another hotel but made a point to visit Miss Kathy in the Criollo restaurant. We remembered her so fondly from a previous visit and wanted to enjoy her perfect service and genteel hospitality again on this trip. She did not disappoint. When people visit New Orleans, this is the kind of experience they want to have - a story they’ll retell dozens of times when they return home. Thank you, Miss Kathy. The hotel itself is stunning—classic New Orleans elegance with a timeless, storied charm. Our room was beautifully appointed, immaculately clean, and wonderfully comfortable, with thoughtful details that made the stay feel special rather than routine. It was the perfect setting for such a meaningful milestone. What truly sets Hotel Monteleone apart, though, is the staff. Every single person we encountered was warm, attentive, and gracious. They went out of their way to make the birthday celebration feel recognized and memorable, without ever being intrusive. That level of hospitality made the experience feel personal and heartfelt. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the French Quarter, yet the hotel itself feels like a refined retreat from the bustle outside. And of course, the Carousel Bar is as magical as everyone says—an absolute must and a highlight of our stay. This was more than just a hotel stay; it was an experience we’ll always associate with a very special birthday and wonderful memories. Hotel Monteleone set the bar incredibly high, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return for future celebrations. Highly, highly recommended.

Excellent staff and facilities ......great location and hotel decor. Will be back to stay at this traditional New Orleans hotel!
