Red Lion Hotel Eureka

Staff at check in were very friendly. Room was OK. Nothing special. Glad to have a little freezer in the mini fridge to keep our ice frozen. Lots of free parking. Comfortable bed.

There was no hot water. The best I got out of the shower after 5 minutes was luke warm which was barely warm enough to stand under for a shower. Breakfast is minimal with no hot protein. Basically a bagel and toast bar with some yogurt, cereal, fruit and some pastries. OK considering it was free. They do offer to make you omelettes, waffles, pancakes if you want them for an extra fee which was quite reasonable. We were fine with the free version.

We have never stayed in a "hotel" in such disrepair and been overcharged for a low-quality room. The room had mold all over the restroom(see photos), and half the lights were burnt out. To reach our room, we had to take two different elevators because the hotel's security was severely lacking, making the main office the only accessible entrance. Customers who stayed there long term told us they had their car broken into twice and the homeless routinely try to get into the building and that's why they have disabled access to all of the other doors It took almost 20 minutes for someone to show up at the check-in counter. The room fixtures and furniture were covered in dust. Compared to nearby businesses, their rates were better, they offered higher quality cleaner facilities, and they included a complimentary hot breakfast. When we reached out to Sonesta about our concerns, their arrogant and rude front desk manager (Nathan Oshiro) replied that he had gone into the room and did not see any of the issues, that the room was clean and free of mold, and only one bulb was burned out. When we sent photo evidence of the dirty room conditions and informed him that we don't appreciate being called liars he never took the time to respond. So I suggest ignoring the good reviews unless there is a good part and a bad part of the hotel and you are willing to roll the dice on where they will place you.

There was not really anything positive to say about this hotel. We will never stay here again.

Let's start with check-in, that took 10 minutes standing at the counter before anyone showed up. We had all of our luggage on two carts before anyone checked us in. Once checked in, we were told a very complicated way to get the luggage carts to our room that involved 2 elevators and going up and down different floors. All of the side doors, including the ones closest to our room, which was about a half mile from the lobby, were exit only because of the issues with crackheads and homeless people coming in the side doors constantly. The wallpaper was peeling off all the walls. The carpet and color were very dated. There was thick smell of mildew throughout the building. This was all before we even got into our suite. In the suite, there were multiple lights burned out. The door into the suite looked like it had been broken into and the latch lock was very loose. The room was somewhat clean, but the lighting was terrible in the bathroom area, where most of the burned out lightbulbs were. The mini fridge was very small for the size of the room, and we could barely fit our refrigerated good in. The shower area had tons of black mold around the ceiling. There were busted floors tiles and dust on everything. The window locks were broken, so anyone outside could slide them open, and there were no screens so we couldn't open the windows for fresh air (to get rid of the mildew smell in the room). For the price of the room, we expected at least a decent breakfast. When we noticed that they charged for just about everything (including $4 for cereal with milk), we opted out of eating before we checked out. We paid over $300 for our room even though the hotel looked like they were at around 10% capacity, so not really a value. As we were leaving, we propped open the "exit only" side door so we could load our van without having to walk half a mile to the lobby. A guest complained that propping the door was not safe because of the area.

Good location

No hot water at night, very thin blankets, key didn't work one time. Regarding lack of hot water, I did call the desk and they apologized but there was nothing they could do because the late hour, which is understandable. I had to let the taps run for about ten minutes to get even warm water - and I didn't get hot water at all until the next morning, which was too late for my purposes. The room also has only 1 very thin comforter (if it can be called that) and so it was pretty cold. I don't like sleeping with heat on, and there is no thermostat, so it was just overall not a comfortable stay and I would not stay again. The breakfast room could also possibly cause a person to become existentially depressed.
