Hotel Retama Machupicchu

We had asked the hotel to have someone meet us at the Aguas Caliente train station. "Cloty" was there with our names on a sign waiting for us around 2pm on a Saturday. When we told her we needed to buy tickets for Machu Picchu she said follow me and started running, we followed right behind her to the Ministry of Culture where there was a long line. She was able to facilitate our purchase of 2 tickets for Monday within 15 minutes of our arrival. What a rock star!! Cloty was also very helpful with our many questions over the next few days. The hotel was located beside the river away from the loud part of town near the pathway to the hotsprings. We had very peaceful nights sleep the entire time. Breakfast in the morning had many options and they were fast in making eggs to order. The wifi was strong in our room and in the lobby. I would absolutely stay here again!

This place might be fine during peak season, but I was shocked during my stay and was forced to move out. The hotel was undergoing a general cleaning and cosmetic renovation, and the courtyard is shared. Work was underway on floors 1 through 3, and I was put on the 4th floor. There was no hot water in the sink, and it wasn't even provided, it was told that it was normal. The hot water in the shower was a bit warm. The WiFi didn't work, it just said "no internet" when I connected. The room was cold and damp. The kitchen was being renovated. When I asked why they were even accepting guests, I was assured that this is how it is everywhere now and that every hotel is being renovated (spoiler alert: they aren't), that I chose a cheap hotel and should have taken a 5-star for $300, and that if I didn't like it, I could go to another hotel and get a refund. So, that's what I did, but they had already changed their mind about returning the money
