Hotel Retama Machupicchu

This review is not for Hotel Retama, but for Golden Sunrise. We booked Retama, but apparently the two have a mutual agreement whereby if one is overbooked you are put in the other. Normally that would concern me, but Golden Sunrise was excellent. Off the noisy main area a few blocks, in a charming building with well-appointed rooms, a good breakfast, and wonderful staff. So again, I have no idea what Hote Retama is like, but their sister hotel Golden Sunrise is highly recommended.

Beware - a lot of the TripAdvisor reviews are fake. The hotel is average at best, specially compared to the high TripAdvisor reviews What’s good? Bed - Clean and comfortable Staff - Friendly and helpful. Gave me a box for breakfast for my toddler, stored our bags etc Breakfast- good overall as it’s included. Don’t expect luxury items What’s bad? Bathroom - Poor. The bathrooms are tiny, blue in color and dated, not worth the price of the room. I didn’t get hot water and had to request the staff to come and check, especially when I was getting late in the early morning to go to Machu Pichu. Staff was very helpful in fixing it but for $85 USD, you expect hot water to just work. Also no hot water in the sink (not a big deal but FYI) Temperature- no air conditioning or heat. Windows were kept open in April, hence it wear really chilly and hard to get the temperature back to a decent level via blankets Location - a bit of a walk, not nothing crazy. Good view of the river. The main reason I’m taking away 2 stars - Reviews and Rating didn’t match reality. Later I found that most of the TripAdvisor reviews from Sept 2024 etc seem to be purchased/fake - it was a bunch of random accounts that have posted just 1 content in their TripAdvisor history. Total suspect!

Hope we could get some portion of refund for late cancelled nights

The water in the bathtub doesn't go down and the water in the sink also stays put. The towels all had stains, the pillows too, and the sheets smelled bad. The same person who checks you in is the same person who prepares your room without any kind of cleaning care.

The place is good but the staff - on the phone - was unhelpful and sometimes a bit rude. The staff onsite was very nice, not sure what was going on there. The hotel is very pretty.

My stay was wonderful! Hotel was clean and cozy. Staff was friendly. Cloti made us feel at home.

Great service and great team. Met us at the train station, answered all our questions before we asked them. Would come back.

They went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay.

Very good place to stay.
