The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali

Everything was great but one thing I very much disliked was that they gave me and my family a different color bracelets to tell it was my birthday and instead my husband almost got kicked out because they said those bracelets weren’t theirs. Mind you they didn’t even do anything to make it birthday worthy, I was expecting maybe a discount or someone noticing my bday bracelet and do something different but instead we were treated like any other person and almost got kicked out, we pay a lot of money to stay at great resorts and for this employee to call out my husband was pretty low.

Great property

For a resort with such high reputation, I have been disappointed. My family had reserved 2 separate rooms and one party did not get flower Leigh’s because they were not considered “exclusive” which was rude, especially when they see some of us get them and not the others and were quickly denied when we requested if they could have them. Upon forming a line for the breakfast “buffet” we were questioned about our room number, how many people in our room and who knows what else in front of a long line of other guests while not asking others behind us the same information. The lack of discretion, and rudeness made us feel unwelcome. The “buffet” only had 2 choices of protein, salad, yogurt and 2 selection of pastries. Dinner had the same selection. Food was bland, burnt, or not thoroughly cooked. Not enough seating available to eat and yet not allowed to take our food to our room to eat comfortably. Bird poop on the chairs where we were eating, which was unsanitary especially if you have kids. Security asked to enter our room while we were napping, to fix or drill something on the wall behind our TV. We never received a notice on our door or a courtesy call about the interruption, but yet they made sure to leave a notice on our door that one of the pools was going to be off limits due to a private event. On a positive note, our room had a nice view. The beach was clean and peaceful. Housekeeping was amazing! They kept our room clean everyday and used my daughters toys to decorate

Front desk waits were long, and some of the reps weren't the friendliest.

This is what Hawaii should feel like. Being welcomed with flamingos is the best way to kick things off. Joven checked us in and was very thorough in explaining all the tips and tricks of the property. We highly recommend their club rooms (The Hokupa'a tower). The unique access you get to the Lanai area with an infinity pool, full breakfast in the morning, hefty snacks in the afternoon, and a private bar where you can enjoy the sunset every day is worth every bit. The hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants and shopping. I happened to visit when the hotel wasn't super slammed so we had no trouble getting pool chairs. Definitely try the Mai Tai at the hotel bar. Also Jerry at the hotel bar is hilarious - quite the comedian - and people were regulars just to see him.

Good location , good beach , everything was good.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable, which is surprising and not what you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber. On top of that, the resort charges for beach chairs and umbrellas ($75!/day), and while they offer “cheaper” Tommy Bahama chairs for $30+, it feels absurd that such a property nickel-and-dimes guests this way. There’s also a mandatory $50 resort fee, which seems to just cover access to the pool and towels. Also, be aware that there's a $50 daily parking fee. The towel system itself is frustrating; service only runs 9am–6pm, you have to track towels with cards, and if you don’t return them in time you’re stuck going to the front desk after hours. For a supposed luxury resort, it felt unnecessarily complicated and inconvenient. On the positive side, the restaurants and food were very good, and the hotel really came through when our return flight was delayed 7+ hours. They allowed us a late checkout at no extra charge and even gave us a timed-room later in the day to shower and get ready, which was greatly appreciated. Overall, while there were some highlights, the comfort and guest experience fell short of what we expected for a “luxury” stay.

Our view was excellent and the property is beautiful. We went during Hawaii’s “off” season, so there was some maintenance being done to the resort, including scaffolding. The beach is clean. They did shut off our water for a few hours in the middle of the day due to emergency maintenance. Do be aware that food and drinks can be quite pricey. We upgraded to the room with club access and $100 daily credit, which was well worth it. The walls are thin, so you will be able to hear your neighbors. There were many pools and areas to hang out. Overall a good stay!
