Beautiful lobby

While a really nice property, when we arrived ( in 10 degree weather) , there was no heat in the lobby , or restaurant.No one told us this, and thankfully our rooms warm but we planned to dine there due to how cold it was outdoors. We had to bundle up to last in the restaurant long enough to eat. The poor bartender was alone, handling the bar and tables. She even had to run rake out food to rooms as room service! It was painful to watch and experience. The food was average- there was no manager on duty to lend a hand, and no compensation offered for the lack of heat while dining.

Such a cool, old building! Comfiest beds I've stayed in too and they were prompt with our requests for the room as well. We loved how close it is to everything, walkable to most too!

I did not have the best experience at this hotel. When I got to my room it was absolutely freezing. The thermostat read 50 degrees. I tried turning the heat on but it didn’t work. I went down to the front desk and asked for it to be fixed. They sent maintenance up and they told me to wait 10 minutes and if it wasn’t any better I could switch rooms. In that 10 minutes the room actually got colder. I ended up moving rooms and my stay was okay after that. The staff solved the problem but I can’t say they were very polite or kind about it. Overall, my experience wasn’t the best and was not what I expect of a Westin location.

Be careful when parking in the Westin Great Southern lot on Main Street. We arrived, parked and tried to scan the qr code to pay for parking and it would not scan for my phone. We went inside, checked in and inquired about parking at the front desk. We were informed it was all handled at the kiosk (unmanned). We went back out and tried qr code again with a different phone, it scanned, we paid and went on about our business. A month later we received a bill in the mail for parking. Submitted a dispute including our receipt. Apparently because we didn't pay within a few minutes of arriving in the lot we were out of compliance and had to pay again. Parking for 15 hours cost us $95.00. Never again. We really didn't spend much time in the hotel itself, but it was good value for the price and served the needs of our stay.

It is a beautiful public space. The front desk staff was unfriendly, but the bar and valet staff were friendly and helpful. We were on the 4th floor, quiet until 3:30 AM when multiple verbal, foul-language altercations occurred in our hallway. Considering this is a Marriott property, I was surprised to know security seemed to be lacking.

This Grand Dame of a hotel is feeling a little tired but is still beautiful. The handsome lobby needs plaster repairs and the mismash of Greco+Art Deco+ MidCentury modern decor mixed with the techno pop music feels slightly off-kilter like they weren’t sure if they were preserving or modernizing. Only one elevator worked at the time. The ice maker on our floor was not working. The rooms are clean, well appointed with a small fridge (no micro) and reasonable toiletries. Valet parking is a bit steep but worth it for a day. The restaurants (1 full serve, one more of a coffee shop/cafe) are fine but not what I would have expected. In its heyday this would have been a sight to see with guys and dolls coming and going. Now it just a lovely old lady holding her head proud.

Heating does not work. Only one elevator works. Took us 30 mins to check in - there was nobody at the front desk. Staff in the restaurant are very unfriendly.
