Great food, excellent breakfast, friendly and attentive staff

Room is noisy as on busy roundabout A little dated

Location very central to do tourist stuff

Would rather have had a shower but tbh we knew they didn’t have enough rooms with showers for the whole party Our room didn’t really have any space to hang anything up in.

The breakfast was good!

The rooms weren't the cleanest, it could do with updating. The chairs in the rooms were stained. The pillows weren't the comfiest. Was also a lot of noise from the road.

Food absolutely superb

The food is not outstanding both in quality and value for money - portion sizes are large do arrive hungry

The room we stayed in was intolerably hot, the bathroom radiator was volcanic and we were unable to switch off or turn down in the night. We raised the concern during breakfast and was told there was a switch outside the bathroom to turn off, however this was not obvious and we were not told when shown to our room. We were offered £20 off our bill on checkout so it was acknowledged

The staff were friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Location perfect.

Pluses and minuses for 1 night stay at The Recruiting Sergeant in Horstead. Carvery meal was pleasant and enjoyable but quite expensive. Restaurant extremely busy and parking chaotic. Rooms not ideal for and elderly couple particularly so for me, being slightly disabled.

Room ceiling very low and had to lean over at foot of the bed. Shower over very high sided bath certainly not suitable for an elderly couple.

The staff and owner was very welcoming and we was treated like VIP’s. They couldn’t do enough for us. The room was very comfortable and cosy yet modern and fresh. And the breakfast was superb. Really special place and can’t fault it. We will return and definitely will book for dinner too for next time.
