Hampton Inn Traverse City

Great location

We had a pretty terrible stay at this hotel. The worst part was that there were roof repairs being done from 7 am to 7 pm, and we were not told this at all prior to booking. We had a top floor room, so it was impossible to sleep in or relax in the middle of the day in between activities. I went to the front desk to ask to be switched to a lower floor - and one of the workers at the front desk stormed into the back room loudly whispering “Jesus Christ” as if I were annoying her. The manager, Dominic, was so helpful, though, and happily accommodated us. Being moved to another floor did not help the noise levels at all, and this combined with the extremely small rooms and the very busy road right outside - we decided we had to get out of there. Dominic, again, was so understanding and helpful processing the refund for the remainder of our trip. He was the only bright spot of our stay there - it will go down as the single most uncomfortable hotel stay for our family.

This hotel is an older hotel, but it was comfortable. The front desk staff and housekeeping were all very pleasant. Our room was clean and we had no issues with that. However, the carpeting in the hallways and elevators were pretty dirty. A couple of days, one of the elevators was out of order. The pool was out of service part of one day. The room was very small and maybe it's because it is an older hotel and that's just the way they were built. It was difficult to get the luggage cart in the room. One of the oddest things was the bathroom doors. I've read many comments about them and I agree it was definitely weird. The were like barn doors but didn't close all the way. The doors were right by the chair in the room, so someone sitting in the chair could hear everything. There was NO privacy at all. The chair by the desk area was so hard that it was like sitting on concrete. It was very uncomfortable. All in all, it was an ok hotel, but. we've stayed at many Hampton Inns and they were much nicer. The location was good, but I hope they would update it in the future.

Trip advisor sold us a room that was not available when we arrived. We were therefore downgraded to a lesser room with double beds. The hotel was decent. It is an older property that was not quite up to usual Hampton Inn standards. The refrigerator had a broken shelf that would not allow ice packs to freeze. The bathroom door is a sliding door that has a large open crack in the middle. No problem for a couple, but could be awkward for others.
