The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage

An excellent hotel in a lovely location and we hope to go back in the future. Food for all meals was extremely good. There are some local rambling walks which we enjoyed prior to breakfast each day before the temperatures became excessive. Disappointed I was only offered Valet parking which came a high cost, I couldn't understand why I wasn't allowed to park the car myself like we do in the UK. Note: the gym was a pathetic attempt at one as it was in a temporary location due to refurbishment works, not sure when the new gym will be in action. Swimming pool was open until 10pm and we went in with the kids late in the afternoon / early evening each day and it was lovely. Note: This hotel whilst excellent it does charge these American Mandatory "Junk" Fees on checkout which needs to be banned. In our experience the better quality hotels like the four seasons don't charge these fees. However, as we had two interconnecting rooms they only charged one set of Mandatory "Junk" Fees instead of two sets of fees and this was appreciated.
