The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage

Very lousy rooms the room is too expensive for what it is. The room smelled really bad. We had crazy neighbors, yelling, and screaming and slamming the doors all night long overall a horrible place with all that money they charge.

We recently stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage and, as always, were incredibly impressed by the service. Though we don’t visit as often as we’d like, every time we return we’re reminded why this resort remains one of our top destinations. Our check-in experience was handled by Andrew, who was professional, gracious, and helpful—even during a particularly busy time. He walked us through multiple room options to ensure we found one that suited our preferences. Unfortunately, the following morning we encountered a disruptive situation while enjoying breakfast on our balcony—a neighboring guest directly below was coughing persistently and loudly for nearly an hour. While we have full sympathy for anyone experiencing health issues, the nature of the cough made it difficult to relax or enjoy our meal. We brought this to the attention of the front desk, and Irene responded with true hospitality. She was kind, empathetic, and immediately arranged for a new room in a different area of the property that was perfect for us. Her understanding and professionalism turned our experience around. The bellhop who assisted with the move was also outstanding—engaged, personable, and informative. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch his name, but his service was memorable. Later that evening, Andre arrived at our door with a complimentary plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and a handwritten note from Irene expressing hope that we were happier in our new room. It was a warm, thoughtful touch that truly resonated. This is what makes the Ritz-Carlton experience so special. The beauty of the location is undeniable, but it’s the personalized care and exceptional service that sets it apart. We will absolutely return again—and recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.

As someone who deeply admires The Ritz-Carlton brand, it pains me that my first TripAdvisor review is about a disappointing stay—especially at what was meant to be the highlight and final stop of my U.S. trip. (12 am after my Check In) We arrived late in the evening, and unfortunately, the welcome experience felt rushed and transactional. The valet and bell staff completed the process quickly, but lacked any sense of warmth or genuine care. The front desk associate was friendly, but didn’t seem focused on understanding or enhancing the guest experience. When I inquired about a late check-out, I was offered an extension from 11am to just 12pm—without being asked about my actual preference or travel plans. Simple questions like pool operating hours were answered with short, surface-level responses, rather than the thoughtful, proactive service I’ve come to associate with this brand. There was no introduction to the property, dining outlets, or available activities, which felt like a missed opportunity to create a memorable stay. On a positive note, the room was well maintained and turn-down service had been completed before our arrival, which was appreciated. However, the most disappointing part came when visiting the pool at around 9:36 PM. There was no attendant present, and the pool was clearly not in acceptable condition—debris, insects, and to my shock, a pair of swimming trunks floating in the water. This level of cleanliness and oversight is far below what I expect from any five-star hotel, let alone The Ritz-Carlton. This stay sadly fell far short of expectations and did not reflect the legendary service the brand is known for. I truly hope this feedback leads to improvements so future guests can enjoy the elevated experience The Ritz-Carlton promises.

We stayed one night using my Ritz-Carlton credit card free night certificate to celebrate my daughter’s upcoming 10th birthday—and it was lovely. The hotel upgraded us to a spacious deluxe 2-bed room (worth $1,600!) and spoiled my daughter with special treats. Front desk staff were warm, offered early check-in (11 a.m.) and late check-out (1 p.m.), and made us feel incredibly welcome. The grounds are stunning with panoramic views of Coachella Valley and easy access to three scenic trails. The Edge steakhouse was phenomenal—the Wagyu filet was perfection, and the staff handled my husband’s picky steak requests with grace. Downsides: Poolside service was very slow, Chase flagged our charges as fraud (and the front desk called us at 11 p.m. about it), and valet-only parking made quick car access a hassle. Still, a fantastic, family-friendly Ritz experience. Not quite Grand Cayman-level, but close.

Extremely rude front desk staff. Asked for a different room (that I would happily pay for) and was told the hotel was fully committed.. yet, every single room category is available online. The staff act as if this hotel is an Aman property… where in fact it’s a basic Ritz Carlton… basic at best. Rooms are not clean, hotel is understaffed. Certainly not worth the money.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the Ritz Rancho Mirage. It was our first trip to Palm Desert and we were eager to check into our hotel room. Avery greeted me at the front desk and acknowledged my Bonvoy status. I had booked through a preferred partner, and Avery was able to upgrade my room (thank you, Avery!). My husband and I had breakfast at the hotel each day which was delicious. Ruben at the front desk made some fantastic recommendations for trails to walk by the property, speakeasies to check out in the evening, etc. Dennis at the concierge recommended a great restaurant, Mitch’s. He also told us about Pioneertown which was fun to check out for a morning. Overall, the staff at this Ritz were upbeat and approachable. They were always saying hello, holding doors open, offering you water- these are the small touches you expect from a five star hotel. I would absolutely book here again!

I only liked the family pool area

The Ritz-Carlton promises the finest personalized service and a luxury experience, but unfortunately, our stay at the Rancho Mirage location didn’t live up to that standard. From the moment we arrived, the overall service and room quality felt underwhelming. The room itself showed signs of poor upkeep—specifically, a leaking shower head and a drain that wasn’t working properly, which made the stay feel far from luxurious, especially considering the rate of nearly $1,000 per night. There was a noticeable lack of the warm, attentive service you’d expect from a Ritz-Carlton. Small touches that typically make a guest feel special were missing. The only redeeming aspect was the pool area, which was well-kept and enjoyable, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the experience. Overall, it didn’t feel like a five-star resort stay, and we left disappointed rather than pampered.

This was my second year staying here! Love, love, LOVE the spa! Overall, a fantastic and relaxing weekend!
