The Barn

The rooms had all you would need, all the small things considered along with snacks and a variety of drinks. Clean, and the bedroom was comfortable. Breakfast was really good, home cooked, good options, and filling and good coffee.

The male owner. I have never in all the years of travelling or staying away, come across anyone so rude, and intimidating. I arrived at 20:45, which I had confirmed earlier in the day when I spoke to a lady at the property and I was told that would be fine, she said the room was ready and the key would be in the room. I struggled to find the entrance initially through a gated driveway. The parking is at the end of a small courtyard, when I got out of the car there was nothing signing a reception/ entrance etc all I could see was ONE door number (room 4). At this point a man came out of double glass doors (bearing in mind there were similar doors adjacent to this I wasn’t clear who he was). I said hello… nothing, silence. He just stared at me. So i apologised and said “I’m sorry, are you a guest?” Assuming he may be going to room 4. He replied with “I only own the whole flipping place”. It went down hill from there.. I apologised and said as I had never been there before I couldn’t have known he was the owner and I didn’t mean to offend him. He asked me to follow him, which i did. Into a dining room - but waited at the door not sure if he was going to grab something. It was dark - i had no idea that at the back of the room were a flight of stairs to the bedroom - so he said “why are you stood there, are you coming”. You could tell he was put out and irritated but I had no idea why. It was just us in a building too so I was intimidated and on my own. He walked in the room ahead of me, and asked me what time I wanted breakfast, I was a little shaken by the ordeal so far so i asked if i could confirm. He was annoyed and said “well it has to be after 9am because I have a lay in at the weekend.” I said that was fine, and in a bid to end the communication I said I would happy to miss breakfast if easier. It didn’t get any better, he accused me of being late because I was out and about (I’d driven 3 hours from Milton Keynes).

The room was spotless, comfortable and well thought out. The breakfast was super. The choice was very good. The food came beautifully presented and it was delicious. The hosts were friendly and helpful, making us drinks when we arrived and settling us into our room.
