ibis La Rochelle Centre Historique Hotel

I stayed here for 1 day as I had an early-ish flight from La Rochelle airport. In the old part of town so convenient for museums, shops, the harbour and restaurants/bars. CLean comortable room. A little on the small size but I didn't spend much time in it. short walk to the Place de Verdun to pick up the airport bus and buses to the Ile de Re. Friendly helpful staff who assisted in whatever I asked for.

Stayed two nights in the Mercure St Emillion as part of a flying trip around France. Very comfortable hotel, well appointed, clean rooms, no complaints at all. The hotel is on the edge of the old town, next to the river, so about 10 minutes walk into the town square. Only comment I would make is the breakfast which was €15, way too expensive. I walked into town and bought coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and croissant for just €4.10 from a town centre cafe !

Hotel is in a very convenient location close to the bus station and market with local restaurants and an easy walk to the harbour. Room simple but nice and clean.

Decent hotel, but difficult to park nearby

A comfortable base from which to explore La Rochelle

A simple hotel for a reasonable price in a central location. Not worth having the breakfast as you can better and cheaper in the cafes around Vieux Port.

Nothing out of the ordinary but just what you would expect from a hotel which is part of this chain. Clean, comfortable en-suite room which was quite small but adequate for our needs. The buffet breakfast was good value at 9 euros. We arrived very early and asked if we could leave our luggage but we were told our room was ready so were able to check in, which was good service and much appreciated. The hotel is on Rue Fleuriau which is opposite the cathedral and a stone's throw from the Place Verdun - ideally situated for the number 7 bus to and from the airport, which is a bargain at 1.30 euro a journey! The Tourist Office has a map and self guided walking tour of La Rochelle for 20 cents. A day trip to Ile de Re (number 3 green line bus from Place Verdun) costs 5 euros for a day ticket which allows as many hop on / hop off stops as you can manage was a good way to see a bit more of the area. Again, info from the tourist office.

Free wi-fi in rooms was a bonus. All perfectly adequate with the availability of a reasonable breakfast.

Air conditioning was not functioning. Bedding was uncomfortable. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. The cleanliness was pleasing.

This Ibis hotel is now called Centre Historique on the Ibis website rather than Vielle Ville. It was cheaper than the two other Ibis hotels in La Rochelle, which are on the harbour, but this one is only 5 mins walk away.
