The Occidental Lodge

Needs a few upgrades. Coffee pot does not match the coffee pod sizes. Overall service was good. Area is a little depressed, so not much variety in food choices.

Great place to stay. Clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. Staff at reception were very helpful and informative. Howard Station is directly across the road and do a fantastic breakfast. Overall, Occidental is a lovely little village, off the beaten track.

Clean room and friendly service.

It is a basic, clean, no frills motel, which is what I would expect for about $100 a night. The TV got a lot of channels and had an easy to use remote! The bed was pretty comfortable, but definitely bring your own pillows. It had a nice pool, though it was too cool to swim, but the furnishings around the pool were comfortable to sit and lay on. The biggest downside for me was how noisy it was being on a bottom floor, because I could hear the people above me walking back-and-forth and back back-and-forth nonstop. Definitely bring earplugs! It had a coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge. There was a farmers market going on across the street and there is a market there to buy food. It’s surrounded by a hillside with nice trees. The soda machine doesn’t work, but you purchase water and a few sodas inside the office for $2 each. If I were to stay again, I would definitely ask for a second floor room in the back by the swimming pool, because it looks like a newer wing. Although I’m sure if the weather were hot, that room would be noisy because of kids in the pool. So maybe a second floor room somewhere in the middle of the property.

Our room was fine; it was what we expected and the staff was friendly. The bed was not comfortable, and it was very easy to hear people in the other rooms coming home late from the wedding. So, not exactly as relaxing as we hoped. There was a wedding event, and the parking was not great. We were not able to park by our room. I have a knee injury and the hill on the property made it hard for me to manage walking to town. Although I did once to eat across the street.

The bed for sure! Next time we'll find out ahead if there is an event on the property before booking.

Clean, quiet, close to town yet nestled in the trees.

Small town, good rates. Hotel is modern, room was very clean. Restaurants in town all seem to close by 7. Would we stay again? Absolutely, but we would have something in our cooler for dinner!
