Ionis Hotel

Since retiring we have travelled far and wide throughout the world taking a range of experiences from luxury cruises to exotic land adventure holidays. We have always found time each year for our little piece of Greece heaven, always preferring small family run businesses. We have stayed in some amazing little hotels throughout the years but have to say the hospitality of Ilias and Peri managed to surpass anything we have seen so far. They make a huge effort to ensure each guest has the best possible experience. The title of my review sums up Hotel Ionis, Occasionally when a hotel quite deservedly has as many repeat customers there can be a feeling of a clique that sticks together - none of that here! Everyone speaks to everyone else, creating a lovely friendly atmosphere. The swimming pool is a really big for the size of the hotel and there are ample very comfortable sun beds. Though served by a public bus Peratata is a little of the beaten track and many guests hire a car. It is not necessary however for those who do not wish to do so as Ilias runs a lift service to the two local restaurants up the hill six nights a week in return for a petrol tip. He will also organise a lift by the owner to and from another very good restaurant in the village, To Petrino Spiti. They do a Greek night on a Friday. It was quite low key but we really enjoyed it as the food was really good and incredibly cheap. He has negotiated a deal with a local taxi company to take clients into Argostoli on two evenings a week (cost 8 euros) and to the beach in Lourdes on a Saturday (cost 10 euros). Both services were excellent. Ilias will take you on a Wednesday to another Greek night in a nearby village with great dancing and plate smashing. Audience participation encouraged! There was ouzo and lots of wine plus a buffet of many traditional Greek dishes. A great night with the highlight being watching our hosts perform. Last but not least they put on their Quiz/bingo/karaoke night in the garden on a Thursday where you can partake of home made moussaka or meatballs. Lovely hotel, so very well run and spotless Ilios & Peri can't do enough for their guests. The outside space is so relaxing with a big pool and plenty of subeds. There is also a lovely grass area with a little bar with lots of tables and chairs in the Sun and shade. If we came back to Kefalonia we would definitely stay here again. If you are reading this review Peri please see my photo!!!. Your cherry compote was delicious and I said I would try to make it when I got home. Not as good as yours by far...but still very tasty. We have just returned from 7 days at the Ionos Hotei, Peratata and had a wonderful time, The owners, Illias and Peri and the staff are fantastic and made us so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are basic, are more than adequate and are spotlessly clean, we had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and forest which was fantastic. Breakfast was simple but the staff are on hand to cater for all your needs. The pool area is fantastic, fresh water, spotlessly clean with plenty of sun beds for all ( And still the elders, or which we are ! Are still putting towels out early morning on sun loungers and not arriving until the afternoon! WHY !, A bug bear of ours ! There is a very nice pool bar, open all day serving light snacks and drinks, all reasonably priced. Ionis is not near a beach but they are easily reachable if you have a car, we didn’t go for a car as the. Buses are great, 10 minutes from Agostoli (cost 2 euros each)and loads of sea turtles to spot in the sea lagoon and some nice shops to potter around and plenty of Tavernas. The hotel also puts on trips to beaches at very reasonable rates. There are not many restaurants within walking distance, as the hotel does not serve dinner,a Loverly local Taverna, just to the left as you leave the hotel, really well priced, two mains, a Greek salad, beer and wine, 30 euros, we enjoyed this a couple of nights as many other Hotel guests do. There is also another Taverna about a 20 minute walk to the right, opposite a fantastic bakery( well worth a visit to the bakery in our view) we did not eat, but heard good reviews about the Taverna and I believe if you book they will pick you up. Our favourite restaurant was Olive Lounge, up the top of the hill by St George’s Castle, with great views over to Zante and fantastic food, we visited twice and thoroughly enjoyed both visits, two courses and drinks 100 euros, You will need to book and Illias will kindly drive you up at 1930 and pick you up a couple of hours later for some petrol money! What a nice thing to do! There is also another restaurant and cafe that we did not visit at the top of the hill. I hope this review helps, it’s not a 5 Star Hotel But the owners Illias and Peri and the staff make it 5 Star We would definitely recommend and return to Ionis again as many guests do !

First time to this hotel, read all the reviews before booking and were not disappointed. Had a great relaxing calm time. Ilias and Peri the owners and the staff were wonderful, Would certainly return.

My wife and I have just got back from staying for two weeks at Ionis Hotel, we arrived as guests and left as friends. The owners Ilias and his wife Peri can not do enough to make you welcome, from arranging car hire to making reservations at restaurants and also giving us a lift to the venue they just can not do enough for the guests.The hotel is spotless and we had a lovely room overlooking the fabulous pool, plenty of sun beds and setting in the shade when it gets to hot. The hotel is a credit to both Ilias and Peri and their staff, a lot of the other guests have been returning for many years and we can understand why, in fact we have only been home a few hours and have also booked for next year. Thank you Ilias and Peri for a lovely holiday.

Just back from another excellent holiday at the Ionis Hotel. This was our second visit, last year we were here in August. We wrote a review last time and we loved the whole Ionis Hotel and Kefalonian experience that we could not wait to come back. On arrival we were greeted with a genuine warm felt big hugs from Illias and Piri..❤️ It did not take us long to feel we were at our second home. We had an excellent chilled out time and met wonderful people. Big thank you again to the Ionis family and team. The hotel is spotless and a credit to all who work there. I will say again value for money 2 star plus hotel with 5 star service. Would recommend this hotel definitely if you want a relaxing time. John & Olive (Scotland)

We spent five nights at the Ionis hotel and just returned from a brilliant stay. It’s a brilliant hidden gem, when the description said peace and quiet it really was peace and quiet! Illias and his wife will do anything for you to help and it’s so nice to see how proud they are of their hotel, it’s immaculate and there is nothing out of place. Illias will take you up to the top of the hill at night where there are two restaurants, Il Borgo and the Olive Lounge, we went to the latter and the food was brilliant, first class service with truly amazing views. He will also take you to Argostoli on certain days of the week, organise day trips for you and help you with hiring a car if needed. The room we stayed in was a simple but really nice twin bed bedroom, nice Greek feel and a lovely balcony looking out to the hills and castle. Brilliant pool for the size of the hotel and the pool bar the lady was brilliant with us, hardworking and helped us endlessly, the mrs was particularly amazed by how good the Greek salad was and the huge slab of Feta Cheese! Brilliant! Another great thing was how it has a really good family feel to it with all the other people staying there, everyone talks to everyone and it reallys add to the enjoyment of the holiday, in our opinion. We will definitely be coming back here in the not so distant future and can’t wait to return, we now have a wedding to plan in Kefalonia so 100% the Ionis hotel will see us again, thank you.

For what you pay it was really quite good. I am not a big breakfast person , so I only had the Yog and Honey which was lovely.
