Cantwell Cabins

Accommodation in the north is very expensive and I booked this place knowing that it was off the highway and 30 minutes from the Denali visitor center. Room was adequate.

Be prepared to be in a location near an industrial facility with nothing else nearby. I saw the host briefly on check in and then never again - she does not live onsite and there was no emergency number. Breakfast first day was a selection of high sugar packaged pastries and weak lukewarm coffee. There was no breakfast available the second day. If you stay here, bring your own food and beverages (room has fridge and microwave). Understand that the town of Cantwell has nothing available and you will have to drive some distance. The local gas station sells gas at about 1.00 USD per gallon more expensive than if you get it elsewhere.

Cantwell was great! It's a little cozy lodge nestled in between the surrounding forest, and right next to a railroad track. It's older and could do with some updating, but that didn't take away at all from our experience - it was cozy. Cynthia was amazing and hospitable. We requested dinner to be cooked for us, as the options in Cantwell itself are limited. But boy, she didn't disappoint. She cooked us a dinner every night of our stay, and it always included an appetizer salad and sides. We were always well-fed and full. Our room was so cute and the laying was nice - As soon as you walk in you'll see the bed and refrigerator and drawers, and walk a little further past the bathroom there's another door - after opening it it was another room that was a part of ours - Cynthia used it as our dining room, and removed what used to be an extra bed. Overall it was a great experience - it had everything we needed: towels, tv, microwave, refrigerator. I'd love to stay here again.

The only thing that's out of the lodge's control really, is the passing of the train - it will definitely wake you up as it blows its horn when passing through.
