Amazing location, 2-minutes walking distance to Marine Parade. Gorgeous Victorian style of the hotel. Comfortable mattress and lovely snacks in the room. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice hot breakfast with plenty of food and really good coffee.

Overnight stay to see show at the Pavillion Theatre, for which it's in easy walking distance. After phoning for parking advice it was suggested drive around the square a couple of times to look for on-road parking, and this worked a treat. Parking charges stop at 6.00pm and any time paid for beyond then carries over to 9.00am the next morning and for £8 we had overnight parking from around 4.00pm to 11.00am. The hotel looks unprepossessing from the front but it's actually quite big. First impressions on arrival are a dated feel, however it's in good decorative order, well maintained and unbelievably clean. From check-in to restaurant to departure all staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was a standard double. It had a fairly small bed and no air conditioning and in the midst of an unusual 30°C heatwave in May this did not make for a comfortable night's sleep. There was a fan in the room which helped and was thankfully quiet enough to leave on over night on a low setting. Small, fairly dated bathroom with walk-in shower but everything worked and was very clean. We had dinner and breakfast in the 'Indigo' restaurant . It's open to the public and has a semi-separate identity. Dinner was really pretty good and service excellent. Breakfast is from a hot and cold buffet with items like Eggs Benedict available to order. Couldn't find fault and the service was as good as in the evening, my only complaint was that the breakfast service stops at 9.15am midweek (though I read that it extends later in June onwards). This is a bit early for leisure travellers in my opinion, and the only people we saw having breakfast were leisure travellers. If I was rating on room and sleep quality alone it would be a lower score but other aspects have lifted my score. All-in-all would be happy to go back but would probably book a larger room with air conditioning next time.

Staff was pleasant and professional. Location was good. Restaurant served good food in a pleasant atmosphere with attentive waitstaff. Large, clean bathroom. The room was clean and the staff cleaned it each day.

I developed a cold and found the room to be too stuffy, even after completely turning off the heat. The windows were painted shut and there were additional soundproofing windows, so it was impossible to get fresh air. We decided to cut our stay short by one day, and depart on the morning of May 17th, instead of the 18th. I called the hotel from a restaurant midday on the 16th to advise them that we would be checking out on the 17th. When we were checking out, I asked if we could get a refund for the one night. They informed me that Booking.com "had already grabbed the full three night charge." The hotel staff had been very nice, so I did not dispute it. When I got home and saw my American Express bill, I see that Booking.com did indeed post the charge on May 12th, and we didn't arrive until May 15th. I would be willing to split the difference with Booking.com, but we got no value for the third night for which we were billed.
