"Quirky."

8.0

I would like to preface this review by saying that from the moment we arrived at Faro Airport to the moment we left everybody was no nice, welcoming, helpful and friendly and this Guest House was no exception. The Guest House is situated in a tiny street not too far from the main centre. Parking is extremely difficult, but we wanted to leave our luggage there so that we could take the car back to the airport as we were only staying one night here. When we returned from the airport, we found that our luggage had kindly been brought to our room which was indeed very helpful. The room was a large room with a balcony overlooking the pool and deck area below, but I was disappointed to find neither face cloths or tissues in the bathroom and to pay €2.50 for a small bottle of water from the mini-bar is unacceptable. All other five places we stayed on the Algarve over our holiday provided 2 bottles of water every day. This place is very quirky, with many interior design ideas. However, there were too many levels for us, many steps and at 75 and 85 we found this a bit difficult. They do not serve any food here other than breakfast and maybe some nibbles with a glass of Port/wine. Breakfast was an absolute feast, it just kept coming and all very good, the dining room overlooks the small pool and deck or it could be taken out on the deck too. We found it very difficult to find a good restaurant in Faro on that Monday evening and ended up having dinner in a Pizzeria on the main square which actually was excellent. There are restaurants up at the Castelo, but I guess Monday is not the best night. For a drink on a lovely bright evening I’d recommend the Rooftop Bar at Hotel Faro….wow what a view from the terrace. We would probably not return to Faro, but IF we did and were younger, we would return to Opus One and their super-friendly staff who transferred us to the airport the next morning in plenty of time for our flight home. Thanks to all.

This hotel may have seemed luxurious when it was first opened but the rooms have not been properly maintained. Both of our rooms had various issues including deck doors not functioning correctly, the area surrounding the bathtub being totally water damaged (who surrounds a tub with wood instead of tile? illogical) (also the height of the tub and the width of the tub lip/surround, coupled with the insanely sharp edge of the wood, made it incredibly dangerous to get in and out of), faucets leaking, etc. Breakfast was OK mostly due to service. The food itself was quite tasty and varied. It would have been rather great if they offered it buffet style instead of serving each individual a separate plate for each item. We saw *so* much food go to waste as most people left the majority of all the small plates barely touched, and didn't feel comfortable asking for more of the foods we liked because we weren't sure if supply was limited. Plus, service was incredibly slow. We totally understand it's Portugal, it's very laid back and relaxed, and that's great, but it would be nice to get the coffee one asks for within 30 mins of ordering it.

"Left us stranded at 1am"

2.0

We booked through last minute.com a few weeks back and had initially recieved an email asking if we'd like a taxi booked to pick us up from the airport. We responded with a yes, and shared our flight details. A week later I checked to see of the taxi had been booked but never recieved a response. On landing in Faro at just after midnight, I booked a Bolt taxi which took us to the guesthouse, only to find the hotel locked and no one answering the door or phone. I called 7 times but with no response from the guesthouse. The hostel next door was full so having contacted lastminute.com they advised us to find another hotel for the night. The following morning again, tried calling the guesthouse 3 times, and heard nothing. Lastminute.com called me to say they too had tried calling and heard nothing from the Opus One. Thankfully we've been staying in another hotel which is nice, but very disappointed with the way the guesthouse have acted, and thankful the trip was booked through last minute.com and not individually.

"Never again"

4.0

This place looked great on Booking.com. Good location near lots of tourist sites, We checked into a room with a balcony overlooking the pool. I felt the room rate was a little high for a small, older hotel (150 euros per night) but the room was nice. Unfortunately, the bed was very hard. We did not notice the hotel married up to a hostel. The first night our neighbors in the hostel partied till 2AM. The music and noise were so loud we could not sleep. No one at the front desk to help. They did move us to a new room the next day. Another nice room, although the bed was also very hard, overlooking the pool. That night, the load music and guests at the poolside bar finally quieted down about 11PM so we were able to get some sleep. Breakfast was not very good. This appears to be a party hotel complete with pool table in use at 11PM so if you are looking for a quiet place to stay-stay away. Oh, by the way, the owners' dog peeded on the lobby floor. Nice touch.

Nice, modern bedroom with balcony. The properry is unique with lots of cute activity/social spaces, a pool, a sauna! But the best thing was getting to know Opus, the most playful, fun, loving golden retriever!!

Very eclectic property. Street it is on has a lot of closed / abandoned buildings & tons of graffiti. Wifi in our room was poor until they put us on a different network.
