Another great stay at the Marriott Sand Key. This hotel has become my go-to when ever I am in the Clearwater area. Rooms are large with a separate bedroom, views are spectacular, and customer service top-notch! What I noticed on this last visit was familiar faces from over the years, that says to me that not only is this hotel a great place to visit, but somewhere that treats their staff well. A special shout out to Meli on the housekeeping staff! I had stopped to chat with her on my way to the pool (which by the way is one of the best I've been to) and shared how on a past visit how much we appreciated her sending champagne and strawberries to our room for our friends Birthday and she made it extra special and went above and beyond. Well wouldn't you know, she did it again, this time, we had a knock on the door with a delicious cheese and fruit plate and bottle of champagne. It is little touches like this, that makes this resort stand out amongst the others and why it has become my "go to". As mentioned the pool is awesome, LOTS of chairs, water views, kids play area, pool bar, fire pits, cabanas, jet ski rental, kayaks (one of the daily resort fee perks at the time of our visit), pretty much everything you need for a perfect pool day. Sand key beach is across the street, they have a golf cart service that will bring you to the beach and at the time of our stay, 2 chair and an umbrella were included with the $35 resort fee. We have used the golf cart service on past visits but this time opted to just walk across the street and use the entrance by the Sheraton. The stretch of sand from the Sheraton hotel to the water line is kind of far, we are walkers so enjoyed getting our steps in. Lots of shells in the morning, spotted a few dolphins, and you can walk pretty far in both directions. Breakfast was good, if possible, get the package that includes the vouchers. Buffet has hot and cold items and eggs made to choice. It was spring break while we were there, so there was live music at the pool, along with kid activities. My only complaint would be the parking fee & resort fee, I remember staying there when the resort had neither. As Gold tier Bonvoy, we did enjoy the drink coupon perk, however, we are not kayak people and didn't take advantage of the beach chairs, so the resort fee, on top of spring break rates ($400+ a night), was really more of a hotel money grab than perk, at least for us. It would be nice bring back free parking as a tier benefit and give alternative options for the resort fee, like applying it to the parking. Location is great, easy drive to John's pass and Pass a grille and sometimes quick (depending on the crowds) trolley ride into Clearwater beach. Trolley is free and alleviates the stress of parking in busy Clearwater beach area. Columbia house is next door, you can walk there, as well as some shops and other restaurants. All in all, loved our stay, and will be back again soon! Thanks Marriott Sand Key for another great vacation!
