"Not Veteran friendly"

My husband, a fully disabled Veteran secondary to injuries he sustained in direct service to his country, attempted to secure a room in person and was told rate changes have been implemented and there were no longer ANY specialty rates. The charge would be $207/night, which he politely declined. I was able to obtain a military family rate, which reduced the cost to $163.56/night, by booking on online. When I arrived 10 minutes later to obtain the room, I questioned the the front desk attendant on the discrepancy of information my husband was given (by them) and the rate that Hilton had for Veterans/Military personnel available on their website. Desk attendant was unable to provide a clear reason other than online booking may provide cheaper rates which I understand can be true, if booked in advance. When I questioned them further about telling my husband there were NO specialty rates, when obviously there are, they stated it was "against their policy" to disclose specialty rates, to which I stated was a bad policy and poor customer service. It was at this time the desk attendant became defensive, loud in tone, and threatening - stating they "did NOT have to serve" us and asked me to swipe my card. When I questioned her about swiping my card when I utilized it online to book the room, she again demanded I swipe my card. I again asked her why I would need to swipe when I paid on line and was immediately informed we would NOT be receiving a room and we were no longer welcome at this establishment. Of note, at no time did I raise my voice, engage in any threatening behavior or make verbal threats, utilize profanity, or made any demeaning or disrespectful comments. Our reservation was dishonored, and we were subjected to unfair, disrespectful treatment only for asking two questions that were never answered, but apparently triggering to the attendant who became emotionally dysregulated and retaliatory. I made a reservation and then had the employee refuse to honor it in retaliation for asking questions as an advocate for my husband . I received an email a few minutes later showing I "cancelled" my reservation and received a hold on my card for a cancellation fee of $186.04. I received confirmation for the room on 9/5 at 9:24 pm and received the cancellation notice at 10:13 pm. A complaint was filled on line and we proceeded on to Morganton where we were able to secure a room with the military rate within minutes, received hospitable / professional service, and enjoyed their beautiful downtown and fall festival. My husband lives with PTSD and was negatively impacted by the hostile encounter at Hilton. I am thankful for the accommodating staff at Comfort Inn in Morganton who welcomed us in, allowing him to move beyond the incident and enjoy some rare moments with our daughter and grandchild. * Of note I contacted the General Manager of the Hotel today (9/8/2025), Jennifer Barlow?, and politely asked to have the cancellation fee removed. I informed her I had stayed at this hotel several times prior and was happy with the service, rates, and friendly staff (as well as not having any complaints voiced against us as guests). I was met with hostility, accusations, and false truths. I was called a "liar" and informed that we were permanently banned - for only asking two questions in a firm, but respectful / non-threatening manner, not under the influence of substances, met the age requirements and provided the required military ID (which she acknowledged). I had to repeatedly ask the General Manager to please lower her tone of voice and to please allow me to speak / finish my sentences which she was unable to do. She accused us of utilizing a special rate, "Bethel Colony" rate, which I informed her I have never heard of which led her to calling me a "liar" and stated she "contacted them" and they "had my name"? Also stated I was lying about the charge as she was "looking at it" and they should have charged me the full amount of over $300. I assured her I had the information from my bank and spoke with them and they stated I would need to speak to her - she stated she was ending the call because I was "untruthful" and would email me the proof I was not charged ... still waiting on that. I did Google Bethel Colony and found it to be a Christian focused rehab facility - I would not mind being associated with them for a good cause and have left a message for them to return my call to inquire about my name "being connected" to them. My husband has no knowledge of them as well as I asked - wanted to make sure I am being transparent. I would as the General Manager to ask her employees about this "rate", as they are the ones who enter it and verify with proof (like a military ID) - we do not work for Hilton and we certainty do not LIE to save a few dollars! I deem this Hilton to be deceitful and not Veteran / Disabled friendly and the only dishonest individuals in this incident are them.
