was well within my budget. Central locations with dining options just around the corner. access to the 12th steet metro station one block from the hotel door.

The room smelt like a chain-smoker lived there. The window had no screen and opened to a small walkable space. We figured that by opening the window the smoke smell would be surpassed by fresh air. Welp that was not the case! Someone was smoking there and it all went into our room. The a/c barely worked, barely slept, and walls are paper thin. Our shower was clogged and overflowed. There was hair all over the shower and bathroom floor. Stay away from room 211, left with chest pain and burnt nasal passages from inhaling smoke all night. The second room we got, smelled like old mildew from the humidity in the room. Place is awful! Only convenient thing was the parking.

Woman who checked us in was very informative and had a good attitude.

No hotel parking. Paid the hotel $25/day to park at the convention center (or risk getting car smashed up on the street). Had to go to the desk and get the long term parking pass each time we wanted to go out. Not terribly convenient nor the end of the world.

The Washington Inn is a hidden gem in downtown Oakland. The four-story building stands alone, but it is easy to miss across the street from the Oakland Convention Center. The dark, wood-panelled lobby is straight out of the 70s. The building and its tiny but functional elevator seem to be straight out of 1920. The rooms, however, are modern, sizeable, comfortable and well-appointed, including quality linens. Everything, top to bottom, is well-maintained and assiduously clean. The included continental breakfast comprised cereals, packaged pastries, bagels and yogurt, and was available until 9 a.m. on a Saturday. Nearby Chinatown had interesting food options, as did Swan's Market across the street. The area is a business district and many of the restaurants open only on weekdays. Oakland 12th Street BART is a block away. Jack London Square and Amtrak are a bit of a hike, but less than a mile.

The staff really make this place special--so very grateful for them. My room was very clean. I know people remark on the datedness of the decor, but that's part of its charm. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!

Absolutely loved this place. The building itself is a little outdated but definitely gives it lots of character. Very clean, easy to locate things, staff was amazing.

While the building is quite dated, and so are the items in the room. Nevertheless, it was clean, and the staff was friendly.
