The Benson Portland, Curio Collection by Hilton

The elegant lobby, well-preserved from a bygone era, would be a perfect setting for a movie set in the early part of the last century. Delightful! We'd reserved a junior suite with an "urban" view that turned out to be of rooftops. The room itself was spacious, with two sofas and a wall unit that included a desk, but the bathroom was tiny for a room of that size, with barely enough room to close the door without bumping into the toilet or the shower stall. Although we had requested a room far away from the elevators, we were given the one closest to the elevators, because it was the "best" room in its category. This meant we could occasionally hear mechanical sounds, but they weren't terribly loud. We experienced a couple of service glitches: On our first morning, we received a text message from the valet saying they were reparking our car because we hadn't picked it up yet, and it said we'd ordered it for 6 a.m. The thing was, we were still sleeping at 6 a.m. and had definitely not called for our car. Another glitch occurred in the restaurant. I'd ordered my breakfast first, and then my husband placed his order but somehow the server missed my order. It was served after my husband was done, and with basically a shrug. Overall, for the price we paid for the stay, the Benson was adequate, but service could be improved.

Great location for anyone looking to explore the downtown area//located close to several great food & coffee options & the rooftop lounge they have is a cool hang spot - it’s like a 5 min walk from a park by the waterfront, as well.

It is in a good location in the heart of the city near nice stores and Powell’s Books which is wonderful. The onsite restaurant has a good breakfast and great coffee. There is a fireplace in the lobby and a pianist plays in the evening.

Parking is $59 but there’s a secure lot across the street just to the south for $28. And Portland has a lot of homeless people in this area.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable.

Very vanilla. No special amenities. Food was left in our room fridge. Room view looked like we were in prison.

The hotel was clean and comfortable for a fair price. Our waiter in the morning, Bobby, was very friendly and he's been working at the Benson for over 40 years. I enjoyed hearing his stories of the people he met including Jerry Garcia. Can't wait to come back.
