i didn’t like that we were on level 1 floor. given that we are kama’aina.

I had a really good stay at the DoubleTree Hilo. They recognized my Diamond status right away and upgraded me to a room with a beautiful harbor view. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the location is perfect — close to town and right by Liliʻuokalani Gardens. I also appreciated the switch from required valet to optional self‑parking. And yes, the DoubleTree cookies were plentiful during my stay. I enjoyed the restaurant too, especially the Mediterranean pizza from the bar. Enjoyed the guest lounge with complimentary coffee and POG juice. The hotel is definitely an older property, and you can see where a renovation would help. Even so, the staff, service, and location really carry the experience, and I ended up having a very good stay. I’d happily return.

Firstly don’t fall for the hotels ridiculous ‘ compulsory’ valet car parking scam. There is plenty of free parking in the hotels own car park opposite the hotel and also on the road outside. We watched many guests hand over their keys to the valets or awaiting delivery of their vehicles only to see them being moved from just a few feet from the front door to the hotel. It wasn’t cheap either, even if you don’t take into account an obligatory 25% tip! If the vehicles were being taken to a remote location, then perhaps fair enough, but to watch the staff member walk 20ft away to bring your car over is totally unnecessary. On the second night, we had realised we’d been scammed and parked ourselves in the hotel car park. On check out we were charged for a second nights car parking! I said, ‘but we didn’t use the valet’ to be told that the ‘rules’ say we have to tell them - what rules and where are they displayed? We can only follow the rules if we are made aware of them - we weren’t and I explained that the whole set up is a scam! The staff at the hotel overall were very poor when it came to customer service. When we arrived at the bar several staff members looked at us and then totally ignored us! We left. The receptionists were dower and not in the least interested in whether we had enjoyed our stay and they were very unwelcoming. The hotel has definitely seen better days and is well past its prime having a very tired feel to the state of repair and decor. It does not live up to the Hilton Doubletree brand. The only thing going for it is it’s probably the best hotel in town, but it’s probably the worst too! We cannot recommend this hotel especially at its extortionate luxury type prices yet giving a very low budget experience. The derelict hotel next door didn’t add to the ambiance either. Stay on the west coast and restrict your visit to this side of the island to a day trip only. Avoid

Arrived here for one night. Lovely entrance....beware Valet parking is mandatory here or you risk street parking for free....So you pretty much have to pay..... The first room we were given had a sliding bathroom door with a large gap with full view of anyone sitting on the toilet. The shower had a window going into the bathroom with a curtain on it. Didn't like the layout so they got us another room. Not a renovated room but it was fine. We just spent the one night and glad it was only one.

The qrounds were beautiful. Great location

Went thru booking.com and price was better than when we checked in. Upgaraded to a view room and it was of the smoking section. Did not feel treated very well. The resturant was not as good as last time. Went and ate at the hotel next to you. Will not return. Did not like the owner change from last year.
