Grand Naniloa Hotel, a Doubletree by Hilton

When we arrived had mandatory valet parking Waited over 30 minutes just to get to the entrance to get out of the car The lobby area very dirty -mold in the sliding g doors and the furniture at the bar area had stains s on the furniture-disgusting. Room was outdated -sliding door for the bathroom fell off the tracks and had to get assistance from my son to get me out. You can tell he place has not been refurbished in quite some time Will never stay here again

We stayed in a junior suite with wraparound windows on two sides and extensive sea views. The welcome when we arrived was good as were all staff interactions. The room was huge and a bit worn but comfortable otherwise. It is a large property with great views, well kept grounds and a bar with some good live music some days of the week. We were a little apprehensive prior to arrival given some of the recent reviews however we enjoyed our stay.

This is one of the WORSE Hilton Properties I have stayed in. The outside of the property is old and the only halfway decent thing about the property is the hotel lobby. The rooms are very outdated, they smell of old mold, the floor in the bathroom area is sticky. I literally slept on top of comforter both nights. DO NOT BE FOOLED

Staff were friendly, location was pretty good with an amazing sea view.

Very worn out and probably not reflective of the premium price it asks for. Booked a king room, got a twin instead which wasn’t ideal. Food options in the hotel were limited, the hotel restaurant didn’t have vegetarian options.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, hiermit reiche ich formell Beschwerde über meinen Aufenthalt in Ihrem Hotel in Hilo ein und fordere die vollständige Rückerstattung der für diese Nacht berechneten 499 $. Der Aufenthalt war in jeglicher Hinsicht unzumutbar. Während der gesamten Nacht war in meinem Zimmer ein durchgehendes, lautes Geräusch zu hören, das wie ein laufender Generator oder eine industrielle Anlage klang. An Schlaf war dadurch nicht zu denken. Als ich gegen 5:00 Uhr morgens endlich kurz einschlief, wurde ich bereits gegen 6:00 Uhr durch deutlich hörbare Toilettenspülungen aus benachbarten Zimmern wieder geweckt – ein klares Zeichen für eine unzureichende Schalldämmung.

Our 4th trip to the Hilton Double-Tree Grand Naniloa was as wonderful as our previous visits. For us it is a haven for relaxation, as we take in outstanding harbor views with vibrant nautical activity while also enjoying the twinkling night lights of downtown Hilo. The entire Front Desk was very helpful prior to and during our stay. Cindy and Sierra were particularly helpful. The entire Lounge staff are super attentive as well. Scott had us tuned in with the volcano eruption with the USGA channel on the large screen during the historic eruption of Kilauea. Sweet Rye - as always - totally anticipates guests needs. Drinks that are included as part of the resort fee have been upgraded since our last visit and it was both noticeable and appreciated. The hotel restaurant menu and food served at Ka Liikai just keeps getting better each visit. Justine, Nathan and Gavin were servers with a smile and added to the Ma-halo experience. We particularly loved the Loco Moco and Pu Pu platter. Only wished the outside tiki lights were lit every night as they had been on previous stays. It makes for nighttime magic. ma-halo

We stayed four nights in room 734. Corner junior suite with a wrap-around verandah, king bed, and a kitchen. It was clean, updated, and very nice. It also had a couch that converted to a bed and two TVs. The positives: The valet was prompt in retrieving our car. Yes, there is a $25 daily fee, but when you see the self-park option across the street, you realize it is a great bargain. The on-site restaurant is excellent. We were told there is a new chef and the restaurant has changed hands from an outside party back to Hilton. The food was plentiful and delicious, and I am very picky. Service was prompt. Prices are in line with what you would expect at a hotel restaurant. The opportunities to improve: When we arrived, we were told our room would be ready at 4 pm. It was not ready until 5 pm. Typically, an hour isn't an inconvenience, but we had been up for 15 hours by then and just wanted a shower. We did not see housekeeping again until our last day, when I got really upset. That is four days with no housekeeping. Hilton can do much better. The lack of ownership is astounding. When I asked for housekeeping, I was given excuses and almost ended up arguing. When I asked for a bellhop in advance, I was told to call right before I needed it. Is there no pre-planning or management? I do not want to hear lame excuses; I want action. Would I stay here again? Probably not. There isn't much to do in Hilo itself. The location provides for a good central base for exploring the northeast and southeast portions of the island, but airfare into Hilo is more costly than going into Kona, and it requires changing planes - at least in our case. My advice: go for the really nice room, lower your service expectations, and enjoy the location, warmth, and great restaurant.
