Beautiful place on the bay. Staff was very kind.

We had purchased breakfast for 3 adults with the room. Unfortunately, the hotel did not honor breakfast for the third adult. Guests with a stay of more than a day should be given a kayak voucher. Kayaks weren't available majority of the stay.

We loved the environment and location of the hotel. We were able to walk around the property and enjoyed the sights. We weren’t able to used all the facilities since it was raining. But overall it was not so bad. The Room was great but I did requested a honeymoon option and was not given anything. We asked for room service 4 times before we even got house keeping to come and organize and reset room.

Spring break – escape from the cold NY City winter – for a few days of sun and sand, and respite from the stressful routine of work-work-work that NY imposes on you. The stay was free on our Hilton Honors points ~ so THAT’s a great benefit. The Grand Naniloa is located right on the NE shore of the Big Island – the one actually called Hawai’i. It has a beautiful, open lobby that flows right off the entrance driveway to the waters at the back of the tower. But as it turned out, there was not actually a beach involved: the Hawaiian islands are a chain of towering, volcanic peaks rising some 15,000 feet straight up from the Pacific floor, and the shores drop off rapidly down a sheer cliff just a few yard s off the turquoise, roiling crashers behind the lobby, plunging into a deep cerulean blue. Quite beautiful and exquisite, but not a sun-and-sand affair. Beyond the lobby there is a swimming pool to make up for the lack of sand, and a fairly huge lawn replete with beach chairs and recliners that provide an alternate to a sandy rash… with a view across the waters to the town of Wainaku, Pop. 1,147 ~ and counting. The location is just spectacular. The rooms are very spacious, by today’s standards: one can actually walk around the bed without stumbling into a suitcase lying open on the floor. Each has a reasonably wide balcony overlooking the waters, and in the temperate Hawaiian climate having this outdoor space to sit in and relax is definitely a boon ~ with room service to provide refreshment… plus compact refrigerators, coffee machines and microwaves to complete the amenities. The rooms are equipped with plenty of counter space for luggage to be opened up for short stays, and closet space for the longer occupants to spread into. Hilton’s beds are always very comfortable and I usually get a good night’s rest in them. Baths are large, very clean, well designed and provide all the necessary amenities. As someone who designed many hotel rooms in my early work-life, I appreciate the little extras that have been built in here. The hotel has public spaces that are spacious, comfortable and very usable – mostly located on the lower floors, along with conference and meeting rooms. Even with the somewhat limited space available on these Islands, this property is spectacular. And what would a hotel be without a golf course ? It’s right outside, of course, along with many other recreational facilities. The staff, from the parking valets to the room attendants, were very courteous and willing to provide any extra attention one could want ~ Thank you.

Picture yourself sleeping basically in an industrial laundry room. Not in appearance but the sound ALL night long. Water running high pressure to a machine constantly every minute or so not one wink of sleep. But that awful night of torture cost you $500 US ($700 CND) We decided to stay a night in Hilo while doing day trips around the island. The double tree by Hilton looked like the best option, some negative reviews but I figured maybe they were just one offs. We checked into to the hotel and were there met by smiling front staff, they were busy so we had to wait a little after check in to get our room as it wasn’t ready yet. We were told they upgraded us to ocean view for free so I thought wow lucky us. We spent little time in our room upon check in as we changed quickly to make a supper reservation. Upon return we had a tired family so we got ready for bed not quite noticing that when the lights go out and it gets quiet you are right next to a janitorial closet that I’m sure is constantly running laundry all night long and the wall to our room is the water to those machines. We were consistently bombarded by a loud and high pressure flow of water all throughout the night. We tried to shut our eyes and block out the sound but the water would turn on and off as my family tried to sleep and we soon realized there was zero chance of that happening anytime soon. I don’t believe there is any insulation in the walls to protect your guests from the sounds. So the relaxing high priced hotel we booked to have a nights rest was a fail and we are now more exhausted than ever. I wouldn’t rent this room to an enemy let alone a paying client. The air conditioning in the room wouldn’t cool the room off either and we couldn’t open a window. Room was stuck at 79 all night. Parking on property isn’t allowed, only valet for $25 or street parking. The valet is sooo busy and they don’t control the people pulling up to check in so it gets super backed up btw. I called and asked for towels twice and not once did anyone show up. As mentioned prior by other reviewers the sliding door to the bathroom leaves no privacy.
