Grand Naniloa Hotel, a Doubletree by Hilton

We have stayed at this hotel many times since it is one of the few hotels in Hilo The room was large with a beautiful view of the ocean and downtown Hilo. The beds were large and comfortable We liked the 1 free drink every evening and the Christmas decorations on the grounds. It was the end of low season, so the pool area was not busy. Ken's Restaurant is a 10-minute walk along Banyan Drive

The hotel requires guests to park valet and charges $25 per day. We instead parked our car on the street and had no problem finding a space.

Horrible experience.. The hotel is old and outdated. The carpet was shredded so much the nails were sticking out and I stepped on one. I have two kids so we had to place things on top to prevent them from stepping on it. We arrived late but when we woke up we found 4 cockroaches in the room. It was disgusting. We informed the front desk and lack luster they “wrote it down” and gave us a few dollars off the room, a room we paid nearly $400 a night. Worst than a Red Roof Inn, I would avoid this hotel… just as side note the restaurant was pretty poor too

The location is great for Hilo it’s near restaurants. That’s pretty much that’s all I can say about this hotel. It needs to be renovated and cleanliness if very poor.

Our air conditioner was broken the entire stay. As much as we would complain, they only sent someone up to check it on our last night when we insisted. They kept saying that there’s nothing wrong with it and generally the people at the front desk were so unhelpful with this issue. We have stayed in so many hotels around the world and this hotel does not compare in any shape or form. We found a small cockroach in our bathroom one of the mornings. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone to be honest. Another thing was the lifts took forever and need maintenance.

Nice garden on the ocean- turtles right there. Friendly service. Amazing view. Pool on the small size and not heated.nice size fridge and convenient to have microwave in the room. Store in the hotel with a variety of snacks and gifts.
