Mercure Monte Igueldo

The hotel location is picturesque and has a stunning road leading up to it. The swimming pool is incredible and overlooks San Sebastian. The main entrance and bar is clean and the rooms are lovely too. Also, there is a fun fair slap bang adjacent. It is definitely setup for a slightly higher end stay. Taxi service there is great.

I feel bad as the hotel itself was nice, but there is a bit of a gap between where it should be, especially as a 4 star. The staff were not too friendly. I assume they are different during high season, but when checking in, there was no mention of how to get around, what time breakfast was, how to get to town, nothing on the surrounding area or places to go. There were some older people there who had better treatment, but not sure what happened there. I personally tried to call reception 4 times over the week and nonody answered. When going down each time to enquire, they were sitting out the back and it took a while to be helped. Moreso, the hotel is a long walk to the main beach and the Feniculuar only runs between 11am-7pm. As one of the roads was closed, the only way down is to walk or get a taxi. We didn't get any support or information on this and I think the staff could do with being a little more friendly. Especially in a 4 star. Getting food or drink is almost impossible, no menus or information on times. When enquiring about getting a simple coffee at 9:30am, I was simply told 'you have to wait until later, when the bar opens'. This is pretty disgraceful for a £300 a night hotel. The pool area is stunning, but still a lot to improve on. having only 3-4 parasols for 25-20 loungers is not right and while they have 3 day beds, there was no policing, so people ended up just leaving their things on them and heading off into town for the day. The pool bar was poor. Not much choice and I paid 20 euros for an Aperol Spritz which was flat. Ultimately a beautiful place, but not really worthy of a 4 star and if I could go back, I'd probably pay less for a hotel closer and with more friendly staff. That really put a sour taste in our mouth as we felt like we were imposing on them the whole time.

Återvänder gärna till detta fantastiska hotell! Vi var där i mitten av maj. Poolområdet var stängt och menyn i den mysiga restaurangen var begränsad. Vi hade uppskattat om den informationen fanns på webbsidan. Nöjdare om man som gäst känner till det! Vi såg framemot pool och solstol samt rätter på menyn som inte fanns att beställa. Utsikten från hotellet och balkongen var obeskrivligt vacker!
