Great location, very helpful staff. Since less parking space, they are great in handling car valet. I lost my watch in the hotel, and all the staff was helping me to find it, and found underneath the car seat. I also enjoy one of legendary chicken soup in Semarang "Soto Bokoran". Its only 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

The room is spacious compared to other hotels in the surrounding area. If fact I chose this hotel because of this. I would consider staying in this hotel when I have the opportunity.

I was not too fond of the darker ambience of the room and the corridor due to the choice of blackish/dark colour. It would be nice to have a brighter colour as it will certainly brighten up your days.

Artotel's Hotel Gajah Mada Semarang is a good example of how to make people runaway faster and stay away from staying in a hotel. I chose this hotel after reading a national online paper saying that this is a good hotel, and noticing good reviews this hotel obtained, scored 8.5 out of 10 (excellent). I was hoping that my first stay in Semarang in this hotel become an impressive and memorable one. Instead, it turned out to be a complete nightmare, a very bad impression that I don't want to stay at this hotel in the future, nor to recommend it to other people. The high point that this hotel got from reviewers could be seriously misleading. The hotel is located at Jl. Gajah Mada, Semarang, rather far from Semarang City's tourist attraction, I mean not in a walking distance. So, everywhere I go, I need to book a car via local ride-hailing application. Reception desk (those two women), are inattentive, messy and careless in handling the guests. Wearing faded jeans and black long-sleeves shirt, she sat like a sh.t, with her unfriendly face, no smile and unwilling to help, always look at the computer monitor while her right-hand clicking mouse. She was like a robot. The other woman, the younger one, look incompetent, slow, text-book minded, inattentive, sat like a robot, with her face look at the computer monitor all the way around, not paying enough attention to the guests. With those two ladies, your check-in process will be very messy. Why was that? I put my bags and suitcase early in the morning around 06:30 AM (I got a helping hand from a man at front desk, he was excellent, anyway), and I came back at around 13:20 PM for check in; only to hear those two females saying: "Your room has not ready yet. I will text you when the room is ready, within 20-25 minutes". Fine. I very well understand that hotel check in is normally 14:00 PM. I accepted that. Then I sat on the non-convenience sofa just right in front of the reception desk while waiting my room readied for me. But after 14:00PM I got no text message. No information. Nothing. While I saw many people, many guests, who just arrived after me, accepted for check-in right afterwards, with no delay, no waiting, and they got their room keys right afterward. Why was that? Why they haven't given me my room? Did I do something wrong that many people got their rooms quickly while that was not my case? After I walked down and approached those two reception ladies, and asked why they did not give me my room key for check-in, they said that they forgot to handle my check-in. Then, when I complained and asked why they delayed my check-in, they did not answer me. They answered me after I repeated my question. They said that they forgot to handle my check-in process and said sorry. Finally, I got my room-keys after waiting for 45 minutes. I got a very very bad experience of check-in at Artotel Gajah Mada Semarang. My mood went down so fast. My story did not stop here. Entering the Room, I found the pillows and the bed cover were dirty. Those 4 pillows and the bed cover seemed to be pillows that were used by previous guests. How can I say that? Well, I saw those pillows and the bed cover were dirty. I saw fallen hairs on the pillow. Other proof were the pillows and bed-cover were wrinkled, they were not a fresh, newly washed bed cover and pillows that normally neatly ironed. Pillow covers and bed cover seemed to be low standard of quality, and dirty, and dusty mattress. Other things. Some parts of the wall-paper were peeled and cracked, while the iron-frame of the mirror in the bathroom was rusted. TV table was also cracked in some parts. In the restaurant where guests have their breakfast, there are many mosquitos. With capacity of 9 cars, the parking lot in the basement is very limited. If this parking lot is full, guest parks their car in the side-street in front of the hotel at their own-risk. Claimed to be a 3 star-hotel with nightly room rate was around Rp.800.000 (around US$53), this property is definitely not worth your money, nor recommendable. You’d better choose other hotel that have a better deal and better quality.

Excellent, best hospitality. Staying here was really enjoyable, thank you, the place is clean and I like the design. I got a room that I wanted and it's very great bedroom with lovely bathroom, spacious, clean and very modern. The view in my bedroom was city view and that's amazing especially in the night with all city lights. Thank you for the great service. Next come here again.

This been my third or fourth stay in this hotel, their strategic location is one of reason i stayed here. Property itself was okay, check in process is fast and efficient, room was clean and bit dark due to black painted wall in some room area but its comfortable. Spacious bathroom, lack of soap and shampoo provided (only 1 pouch each) so we need to ask for more. Breakfast was just okay. Very limited parking area, they provide vallet service but cars are located in commercial area in front of hotel. Anyway with their room rates it can be a good choice for short stay.
