Sheraton Hartford South

We checked in and was told because we used Expedia, we had to buy some in order for our credit card to be recognized and used for the $50 security deposit. Now this is strange. The next morning around 4:30am someone one was trying to get into our room. Thank goodness my husband always puts the extra latch on the door. The front desk said the girl that checked us in didn’t do it right and so, it looked like no one was in the room. Talk about negligence. Just be aware to put your latch on at night.

Great location and convenient for our travels up north on our way to Maine.

I don’t even know where to begin. This place defies description—but I’ll try anyway, because therapy is expensive. First off, the one star is for the staff, who deserve medals for bravery. They’re basically playing the violin while the hotel sinks slowly into a swamp of mildew and regret. I can’t imagine clocking in every day to face this musty monument to better times, armed with only a front desk bell and a slowly dying smile. We were in town for a wedding, and this was the designated room block (Lesson learned: always do your own research, even if it's just a Google Street View drive-by). Walking into our first room felt like stepping into a forgotten corner of the Everglades. No AC. July. Connecticut. The air was so thick I could’ve cut it with a butter knife and spread it on toast. Then I made the mistake of checking the reviews—this very site, no less—and within five minutes I was pulling back the sheets like I was on a CSI episode. I’ll spare you the full forensic details, but let’s just say I briefly considered burning my clothes and fasting for the rest of the trip. We asked to move rooms (shoutout again to the staff, doing triage with a fire hose), and landed in the “only available” backup room. It technically had AC, but when the humidity in your room matches the Amazon Rainforest, it’s a distinction without a difference. The carpet? It squished. Like a sponge. I wore flip-flops just to walk from bed to bathroom like I was trekking across a bog. This hotel has two options: Close for a year and renovate. Bring in the wrecking ball and just let the land rest. Two nights here aged me a decade. I left with a suitcase full of damp clothes and emotional baggage. Never again.

There were no keys to enter the room in order to get into your room. You had ask and employee to let you in and then go up to your room and wait!!! They said they were doing their best to get it rectified but then I found out that there was no key entry to the rooms for a week!! The air conditioner did not work in my room. I let them know and they said they would send somebody up to look at it. I get back to my room after being at the field all day and still the air conditioning didn’t work!!!!!!

Another great stay at the Sheraton Harford South Hotel. The room was clean and spacious compared to smaller downtown hotels. The located is pretty centrally located 2 minutes off the highway minutes away from downtown Hartford and great shopping malls. The buffet breakfast buffet was very good. The best part of all was Leslie at the front desk who was very professional and customer centric. Such a pleasure to deal with her, always making you feel at home and welcome. She will ensured our stay was perfect In my opinion, Customer Service is everything and Great Customer Service makes elite members comeback over and over. Very happy we stayed at the Sheraton. Thanks Leslie!!

The entire weddings guest list, including the bridal party stating the night before the wedding, had a nightmare experience at this so-called Sheraton. Do not let the brand name or staged photos mislead you—this hotel is outdated, unkempt, and shockingly mismanaged. From broken air conditioning units and visible stains to bugs in rooms and a permanently closed pool (conveniently not mentioned anywhere when booking), it was one disaster after another. Multiple guests had to change rooms —one guest even walked into a room that had clearly not been cleaned. But perhaps the most appalling moment was when the bride was called just hours before the ceremony and told she needed to move out of her room. The front desk’s excuse? The sales manager claimed the bride had requested the move and acted confused as to why it was upsetting to receive the call. That interaction alone should disqualify this property from ever hosting a wedding or group event again. Customer service was seriously lacking. The night staff, and 7 workers trying to figure out what room the bride was moving to, were dismissive and unapologetic. Zero accountability. Zero urgency. Zero care. The group rate was overpriced for what amounted to motel-quality rooms with poor maintenance. The “suite”? Don’t get excited. The photos speak for themselves. The father of the bride reserved an ADA room as he’s in a wheelchair. Upon check in, no ADA rooms available. NOT OKAY! Save yourself the frustration, especially for an event as important as a wedding. This place was a huge embarrassment. Sheraton should be ashamed to have its name on this property. Right down the road is the Residence Inn, it’s the PERFECT alternative.

I would not recommend staying at this hotel if it can be avoided. During our stay, the air conditioning in our room was not functional, the room had not been thoroughly cleaned, and we discovered dead flies inside the to-go coffee cups provided. We were part of a wedding party, and unfortunately, the front desk staff and sales manager were unhelpful, rude, and inflexible. Most notably, the bride was forced to move from her honeymoon suite to a standard king room on the day of her wedding due to a booking error—an issue that was not caused by her. At over $200 per night, we expected a higher standard of cleanliness, comfort, and service. Instead, the hotel felt outdated, unsanitary, and poorly managed. I would strongly suggest considering alternative accommodations.

This hotel is not accommodating, the staff are not friendly, and they don’t know how to take accountability for mistakes or right their wrongs. I came for a wedding room block. The Sheraton staff overbooked the Bride’s room, and called her in the middle of her getting ready for her wedding to tell her she needed to vacate the suite she had her belongings in! They then proceeded to blame the bride for the mistake. They also overbooked a secondary room that she needed for her dog that very same day. Two of my friends also had to have their rooms changed because their AC’s did not work, and there were bugs in the rooms The lack of professionalism, accountability, and accommodation is astounding. Find a better place to stay
