DoubleTree by Hilton Southampton

Front desk folks were very nice and got us in a bit before our reservation. Hilton Honors helped Fish and chips at dinner was great, even the chef came out to make sure everything was fine.

The mattress was all springs...made lots of noise. No electrical outlet in bathroom. No night light. No bath mat so was very slippery and dangerous. Room for 2 but only 1 chair, makes no sense.

Its location was the best thing about it.

The bed was so hard with no give at all. Our room was on the 5th floor where the air con doesn’t work very much so sleeping was difficult as it was so hot. The shower water pressure was terrible with virtually no water coming either of the shower heads. The plug in the sink didn’t go down so you couldn’t even run (very slowly) water into the sink. Lastly the £24 overnight charge to park your car was a surprise. I would have thought that 90% of people staying would arrive by car and not know about the charge.

1) location 2) big property, quiet location 3) well connected by public transport

1) breakfast spread is way too small and same items everyday 2) no refrigerator in the room

It now feels like a Hilton Hotel roomwise but the food was disappointing.

Inedible spare rib meal we ordered in the restaurant we sent back. Staff were quick to apologise and change our choice to fish and chips. We refused to pay the service charge. On reporting it to reception on check out no offer of compensation was offered even though we are Hilton Honor members.

Nothing much, apart from a couple of minor items: the shower head drooped and the sink in the bathroom drained very slowly (mind you, this was a common feature of several hotels on our trip).

Very small thing but I love mushrooms for breakfast and there wasn't any🫩 other than that a very enjoyable breakfast

Checking in and out took a little while, although I realised there was a new member of staff who was doing this, (who was lovely by the way)!! Just took a bit more time and there was a que forming

Some of the staff were particularly friendly and helpful.

A number of issues unfortunately happened during our stay which has put me off coming here again. Firstly the air conditioning was not at all effective especially during the hot weather recently. I asked for a electric fan to be provided which other hotels seem to store as standard in the wardrobes. The first guy at reception was not helpful at all and claimed he would sort something out but he didn't. I had to go back and chase up issue. Secondly the meal we had was not great at all for the price we paid. I ordered the ribs and the meat was mainly fat. It was not edible and I had to speak to the manager who did replace with another option. On our second day there the room had not been serviced despite putting sign on door to request cleaning. Was very disappointing considering we often stay at other Double Tree hotels and are very happy with them. The manager did provide a fan for us but the experience there was off putting for us to return to one of my favourite cities!
