The Swan Inn

Perfect location in the Cotswolds with Burford and all its surroundings within minutes drive. Very nicely surprised to be upgraded to the family room with living room two bedrooms and shared bathroom. Never slept in such comfortable beds, top quality linen and mattress toppers. Excellent dinner and breakfast with very helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely return.

We stayed at The Swan Inn and felt that, while there were some lovely aspects, the overall experience didn’t quite match the price point. On arrival, there was a little uncertainty around where to check in, and we weren’t immediately sure who to speak to. I asked a waiter who did kindly find someone to help us. We were shown where the breakfast room was, although some basic information such as breakfast times and check-out details would have been helpful. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable, which we really appreciated. The inn itself is in a lovely setting in a quiet village. However, there were a few issues with the room, including damp patches on the carpet and some visible staining. Robes were also mentioned as being provided but were not in the room. Which we can do without but it was listed on the room details. After a day of exploring, we were looking forward to returning to the pub to enjoy a pizza, as these are listed on the menu. Unfortunately, we were told they weren’t being served at that time, which was a little disappointing and we went elsewhere. The pub downstairs is cosy with a lovely atmosphere. Music noise from the pub could be heard in our room and continued until around 10:45pm, which may be worth bearing in mind for lighter sleepers. Breakfast the next morning was very good in terms of quality, however service was a little inconsistent. Part of our order didn’t arrive, and the continental breakfast (which is included and brought to the table) wasn’t clearly explained, as to whether you select items or receive everything — something we noticed other guests were also unsure about. You have to pay extra for hot food. When we arrived there were 3 members of staff it seemed but no one acknowledged us and we waited for 10 minutes and then had to ask to be served. Others were served before us having arrived after us. There were only 3 other tables in the breakfast room at the time. We don’t enjoy complaining, but when comparing this stay with other hotels at a similar price point, we felt it was somewhat overpriced.

Fantastic stay! We stayed in the family suite and it was absolutely perfect. Everything was so clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Ideal location and also very quiet and idyllic. We will definitely be back!

Lovely Christmas Day lunch at the Swan. The greeting/welcome, service, food, presentation & atmosphere very good. Fabulous decorations in the rooms, festive table settings & a roaring fire made it special, warm & cosy on a very chilly but sunny day outside. What really stood out to us was, even though the restaurant was fully booked, the staff appeared calm & in control. It may have been mayhem behind the scenes :-) but we felt things were running like clockwork. Pricey, yes, but pubs are struggling and everywhere has had to raise prices, this was a premium day to eat out too. We left feeling very happy, satisfied & relaxed, not having to complain about anything. Well done everyone !! (Our first visit to The Swan Inn, but looking forward to returning soon).

Great cozy pub with lovely rooms, great service and beautiful natural Christmas decorations made a pre Christmas getaway just perfect.

An excellent over night stay while travelling with excellent food for both dinner and breakfast the next day. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed with diners so they are clearly doing something right. Very dog friendly. Highly recommended.
