Avon Old Farms Hotel

Escapade en famille dans le Connecticut. La région est magnifique. L’hôtel est charmant. La piscine agréable. Bon petit déjeuner dans une très belle salle.

We just ate at their dining/ bar and it was excellent - staff is extremely accommodating and friendly

Check in was ok, but we found that the bed was very firm - uncomfortable on your side ok on your back. The bathroom fan was very noisy, the WiFi didn't work. Breakfast was awful:the scrambled eggs were almost hard, the sausage barely warm, the bacon cold. The lone guy running it was on his phone and barely could look up to say sit anywhere. When he engaged, he was friendly enough.

This is a large property with comfortable amenities at a good price. The free breakfast is standard fare, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, and potatoes with the choice of breads for toast. They also offer some breakfast cereals and Chobani yogurt. The outdoor pool was wonderful, situated next to a grove of tall trees.

Our stay at Avon Old Farms Inn was less than satisfactory. Beginning with check in: my partner has Parkinson’s, he walks with a cane. I specifically asked if we should leave our car where we parked it or move closer to the room. The gentleman at the front desk said no we were fine parked where we were. He told us there was no elevator to get to our room on the second floor, we’d have to take the stairs. He did not offer to help me with our bags. I lugged two suitcases and a backpack up the grand staircase. The staircase was steep, Mark was unsteady from the long drive and couldn’t carry anything. When we got to our room, I noticed that there was a parking lot right outside of our room! I’m sure that he knew there was a parking lot. If we’d known, we could have driven up to it and brought our bags in to the entrance on the upper level. The room: the room smelled musty and was damp. The air conditioner was extremely loud and rattled all night long. When we woke up in the morning, our clothes were wet from the A/C. There was mold on the shower curtains. The bathroom sink wouldn’t drain, there was hair on the floor under the sink area, the iron had mold in the water reservoir- you get the idea. Except for the very cool canopy bed, the entire ambience of the room was a two star Motel 8. I had hoped that we would be staying in a more New England style Inn. This was not the case. What a disappointment from the unfriendly staff to the disrepair of the room. Our waiter at dinner, Eli, was excellent. Even though he was overworked and a bit stressed, he waited on us with kindness and humor.

Staff was very friendly and professional. Room in old building on second floor had severely cracked concrete walkway outside with exposed rebar. Metal outdoor stairs to second floor were very rusty and needed painting. Changed to larger room in upper building. Both rooms very musty. Need fan in bathroom for humidity.
