Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel

Mixed experience here. Check in process was a tad slow. There were multiple staff at the front desk area but only one working check-ins. Staff was ok although not particularly warm or welcoming. Lobby decor is beautiful - stylish and upscale. Dining was exceptional. Amazing healthy breakfast options and waitress provided excellent service. I also had room service which was very prompt, fresh, and well presented. Note: it's open seating at Dust Cutter. I wandered around the restaurant trying to find a host stand or employee to be seated. The bartender was unaware how I could be seated, and once I did find a staff member walking through the restaurant, he was rather abrupt and unpleasant telling me it was open seating. On-site amenities were great. Having a FedEx onsite was wonderful for business travel and their staff were very helpful. The gift shop and Starbucks were also very nice. Room was sufficiently clean and a decent size. Spacious bathroom with a separate shower & toilet area. The toilet had a sulfur smell which was unfortunate but did not spread into the room space. There was cracked tile in the bathroom. Largest disappointments: Late night bar traffic and noise. People took over the bar area around dinner time and loudly drank through the night. It was not an atmosphere I'd want to have a nice, peaceful sit-down dinner in. Guests could be seen stumbling into the elevator at night. I heard shouting down the halls at 2am and 4am. Walls are paper thin (heard a guest next door extensively coughing and could hear the stream of another using the restroom, and as people talked in the hallway it sounded like they were inside your room). There was also loud construction noise (jackhammering and explosives) beginning around 5am but I understand that is outside the hotel's control. I'd definitely come back for breakfast, not sure about staying overnight again.

Came here for a week for work. It’s very close to the convention center and there are walk ways through the middle of buildings and block to get from here to the convention center quickly. It’s also central to all the downtown restaurants, making it walkable to any restaurant within a few blocks. The property is pretty big, with 19 floors. There’s a lounge on the 19th floor for those with status. The lounge is decent, offering breakfast in the morning and snacks throughout the day. Checking in was decent. The guy who checked me in seemed to take a very long time to look for a room, but he was friendly and hit all the marks checking me in. My room was nice, interesting that the wardrobe and hangers are in the sink area of the bathroom, but it worked. TV channels and streaming was excellent. Bed was comfy. Shower worked and drained well. The valet staff were great. Staff I talked to were all friendly as well. There’s a FedEx on the lower level, if you need to ship/receive anything. The FedEx location doesn’t open until 9AM, but the front desk has the ability to get in to get your packages. The only issue was probably housekeeping, which was a mixed bag. They really do a crappy job keeping the room tidy and refreshing it daily. They forgot something each day (soap, more water, to make the bed, swapping all the towels, etc). Would I stay here again? Yes, definitely! Nice property!

One elevator was out of service the entire weekend of the College National VB tournament. It really slowed down the movement up to our room and down.

honestly it was a pretty miserable experience for me. I had accidently booked a stay here and at the Marriot on the same days. I tried to cancel the stay here but they were going to bill me for 1 night stay which was about $350. I then then figured I could stay there one night and just cancel the subsequent nights. I called customer service who recommended I speak with the hotel staff directly. When I went there, they told me they would charge me over $500 to cancel but I could stay there for 1 night for $600 or all 3 nights for $1500. The front desk guy kept going back to his manager and everytime he came back he would quote me a higher price...then it became $600 to stay for 1 night which I believe should be a criminal offense. This experience just negatively colored my entire experience and overshadowed anything potential positive attributes the hotel had which is why my overall score is low. I felt completely taken advantaged of. I will NEVER return. I ended up only staying for 1 night because cheaper to pay Marriot's cancellation fee. Their room was small, definitely not worth $600.
