"More than an overnight stop"

8.0

This would be an excellent place to stop for several nights to explore the Douro valley. The owners are charming and hospitable, and welcomed us with a complimentary bottle of their own Vinho Verde, chilled and fruitily delicious. The location is way up in the hills above Amarante, a pretty town about 15 minutes’ drive away, so not easy to pop in for an evening meal, but the Quinta has what is reputed to be a decent restaurant. Unfortunately for us, it isn’t open on Mondays, the one night we stayed. The farm offers interesting-looking trail biking and walking, and the owner gives guided tours of local bodegas in the comfort of a couple of his classic cars: the BMW 635 CSI appealed greatly, but alas, it was time to move on. We would go back for a longer stay.
