My stay was unfortunately impacted by several persistent service and communication issues that significantly affected my enjoyment. The experience began poorly when the bellboy reacted with clear disappointment to a $4 tip, which was an uncomfortable start. A recurring issue was misleading information. At The Grove bar, the menu advertised four beers for $25, but I was charged $48 because the promotion was apparently no longer valid. It's frustrating to be charged based on an outdated menu. The on-site shop was also a source of frustration, as almost none of the products had prices displayed. This meant you had to take every item to the cashier to be scanned one by one, while she asked if you "still wanted it" after revealing the price. In that same shop, I accidentally tapped my card on the wrong reader. Instead of a simple, professional correction, the attendant exclaimed, “Oh my god,” ripped the receipt from the machine, and instructed me to try again, which felt unnecessarily dramatic. The WiFi throughout the property was consistently unreliable and never reached a strong, usable connection in any area I tried, including my room and the common areas. The service at the 1887 bar was particularly inconsistent. One bartender was visibly annoyed and argued with me when I requested a fresh rum punch, despite a different bartender the night before having said he preferred to make them fresh. Furthermore, the bar staff were often gathered chatting, leading to long waits; we waited over 15 minutes for drinks while seated outside on more than one occasion. The notable exceptions were the reception staff, who were consistently welcoming and helpful, and a maintenance gentleman who promptly and cheerfully fixed an issue with my room safe. While the property itself is beautiful, the cumulative effect of these service failures and lack of professional communication made my stay disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not choose to return to The Crane.
