Yufuin Sonata

This place is not far from the travel spots and can be found easily. I feel like home when I visit here and would love to recommend to others who plan to stay at Yufuin.

Check out 10 am but 9.30 your staff already in the property.

Close to Kirinko, feel like home so comfort and staff so nice Private onsen is very good

It is a great option to stay in Yufuin at an affordable price. We stayed in the japanese style room with kotatsu. The kotatsu was a great addition cause it was super cold the days we were there, so it was much appreciated. The hotel has two onsen baths that are quite nice (it is great to have a private onsen included in the price). Location is great for tourism, it is 4 mins away walking from the lake kinrin, which is a touristic spot better seen very early in the morning, so the closeness helps, and it is close to cafes, restaurants and the main shopping streets.

The hotel is basically an old house used as a hotel. You can see some stains in the walls and doors, the toilets and shower are not the newest and overall it has this dusty feeling. The futons were very thin, so you are basically sleeping on the floor, it was not terribly uncomfortable, but if you have any type of body pains I would go for an actual bed. The futon set comes with its own comforter, but it is quite thin, so in colder weather (we were around the -2 degrees at night) you are gonna need something thicker. The hotel provides blankets, which you can find in the wardrobe of the room, and although they did the job, they were quite dusty. The hotel is in a great area for tourism, but every food spot around it closes at around 5:30 to 6, so for dinner normally you have to go towards the Yufuin station area, which is not far, only 15-20 mins away by walk.

This is more like a private house than a hotel. We were very comfortable, the venue was very peaceful. The host made us breakfast, which was simple but filling. The Onsen was perfect.

I love the Outdoor Private Onsen and tatami table. The location is not far from car parking and Kinrin Lake.

The futon is quite thin. I hurt my back, but my friend slept well.

It was clean

It was exorbitantly priced with next to no amenities in an out of the way location. I have stayed in similar properties in big city centres Ie Kyoto and Oma for a fraction of the price Ie one quarter and it has been way better the this place and included beautiful Japanese dinner.

Very close to the main road for strolling Yufuin

This is a youth hostel. It was freezing. No heat in halls or bathroom, only by minisplit unit with no directions (English or Japanese) in bedroom. Patronizing rules for everything, posted signs everywhere to clean up after yourself and be quiet. Paper thin walls. Room very dusty. There was no extra toilet paper, no cream or sugar for coffee. $186 way overpriced to be treated like a child.
