Alfama The Best

Location is good. Very touristy a lot going on. Not my favourite area of Lisbon but is good for people going for the first time.

we'd said our arrival time was 3pm. We got there at 3 and after reminding the key person that we were 20 minutes away when leaving the airport, they arrived near 30 minutes late AND the cleaning time had also only just arrived. So we were waiting outside on the street for 30 minutes then waited inside the apartment for another 20/25 until the cleaners were done. Also the key person had never been to the property before, so couldn't help us with the issues we had with the property, which was that we thought we'd booked a different property, the listing had pictures of two bedrooms, one with a juliette balcony (which was the reason we booked this place, wanted somewhere with at least a juliette balcony) and another lovely double room. When we arrived, the juliette balcony room was non-existent. There is one small double bedroom, and another TINY, horrible little loft conversion. You cannot stand up, get dressed or do anything in this room. even though it was October I had the fan on full blast at night as it's so hot and stuffy up there. It was honestly horrible. The flat is so tiny even for two people, it's got the smallest toilet/bathroom ever. So if you're staying in the upstairs room, you have to keep all your clothes downstairs & get changed downstairs in the hallway. The ladder up to this 'bedroom' is also steep and difficult. There's not even a door or anything for this loft so you have no privacy whatsoever. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and we just wanted either somewhere with two bedrooms or our money back. We felt that we'd been a victim to mis-advertising. There were no pictures of this tiny little loft room on the advert for Alfama the Best. The hosts unfortunately didn't give us our money back or offer us anywhere else to stay. So we had to endure it for the 3 nights.

The location was convenient. The apartment itself is nice. Although the stairs are extremely steep.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience with the host. Despite informing them that my flight landed at 9:00 AM, I never received any communication from the host prior to my arrival when I asked where I could store my luggage, as I was aware that check-in was at 3:00 PM. The taxi they arranged dropped me off a block away from the unit, and I only had the address where the taxi left me, not the exact location of the unit. When I inquired about luggage storage before my arrival, I didn’t receive any information. It was only after I asked again upon arrival that I was given a list of three options, but they failed to mention that there was a storage locker right next to the unit. After 15 hours of travel and over 24 hours without sleep, dragging luggage through the streets was not a pleasant experience, it would have been helpful if the host had provided clearer options for storing my luggage prior to my arrival. Additionally, during the walk-through, the Wi-Fi password was incorrect on their information sheet, and the refrigerator had a strong fish odor. Although the host sent someone to clean the fridge, the smell persisted. They only offered a febreze-like spray, which did not resolve the issue. Even after sending someone a second time, the odor remained, and I was never able to use the refrigerator.

We have already sent a complaint with the details. It was dirty and landlord was notified. Also water came into the apartment from upstairs and wet the furniture and floor. We are expecting a full refund and the landlord is aware of this.

The location is perfekt!

We were told five hours before checking in and just after paying the full rental amount plus the security deposit that, the place was no longer available. We were offered a delapitated tiny windowless “apartment” on an alleyway in an area of abandoned crumbling buildings covered in graffiti and abandoned furniture! The place smelled like animals and heavy smoking combined. It was disgusting to say the least. We had all our luggage and had to scramble to get WiFi and find another place with no Portuguese language skills. The entire experience was a nightmare.

Loved the views! Nice that there were a couple on English channels on the TV. Really great location.

Bathroom very small. Wish Europeans in general would leave instructions on how to use stoves, ovens, dishwashers for use. Too many stairs for my taste but not the properties fault.

The location

The person who was supposed to meet us at the place to turn over the key was late and kept us waiting at the door (even though she kept calling me when I was still at the airport). Upon arrival she did not take the time to explain anything. This was the only place which charged a security deposit while so many things were either really dirty (sofa) or broken (curtains). Also, this was advertised as a one-bedroom but technically there was no real living room as the sofa was right next to the door with no space in front of it.
