Friendly staff, great views of the lake, nicely decorated living space which feels homely and the rooms have a colonial style that fits in with the area. Shower was warm enough. Fantastic breakfast offered

Far from the main town area and therefore any restaurants are a Tuk Tuk ride away. The bed sheets and towels were a bit dirty and the duvet was a bit dishevelled so the filling of it was right at the end of the outer sheet so you couldn’t get all the warmth. WiFi was on and off throughout our time there

Melford Nuwara Eliya is a beautifully maintained gem right beside the historic sluice gate of Lake Gregory. The architecture and interiors exude classic colonial charm—tastefully designed with elegant wooden floors, strong vintage-style beds, and lovely canopy curtains that echo a bygone era. Our room was spacious, spotless, and well-equipped. The bathroom had great water pressure, a powerful exhaust fan, and instant hot water—everything worked perfectly. The balcony opened to a serene view of the lake, adding to the peaceful ambiance. A small garden near the reception with chairs on request made for an ideal place to relax in the crisp mountain air. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the outstanding hospitality. The owner and staff were incredibly polite, warm, and attentive. They were always just a call away—offering tea and coffee generously, letting us use their kitchen, and always welcoming us with genuine smiles. I have stayed in many hotels across Asia, but it is rare to find such sincere and caring service. Highly recommended for a quiet, comfortable stay with exceptional hospitality.

The only drawbacks were the ongoing construction next to the property, which caused some noise during the day, and the location being slightly away from the town center, making access to shops and restaurants less convenient. However, these were manageable—especially with the help of the owner, who arranged tuk tuks for us when needed, and the option to order food via the PickMe app made things easier.

Owner was super friendly and made us feel right at home immediately. Also very thoughtful to prepare packed breakfast for us as we had to leave early the next day. Room was spacious and comfortable with a good view of the lake. Decor and ambience was lovely too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The guesthouse was very comfortable and the owner was very accommodating in sorting out tuk tuks and tours for us in the area. Would highly recommend!

its very peaceful and quiet. very convenient commute to anywhere the best part was the host. so helpful so sweet generous and kind the breakfast was also yum

*The rooms desperately need upgrades. The bathroom had no curtains, turning the bathroom into a pool anytime someone showered. There was also a very bad smell from the bathroom and mould on the walls, which the host tried to address by drowning the room in air freshener before we arrived ... it didn't work *The room had no heating which, during our stay, was very much needed as it was a cold few days. The absence of heating also meant the beds were damp and the room was very humid. *Breakfast was meh. A large variety for sure, but mostly strange cold Sri Lankan dishes. The omelettes were cold. Unless you're really into Sri Lankan dishes, I would skip that. *Had this been our only hotel, I would've written it down to price. But we have been to several other hotels at the same price point that were better.

Location was good. Nothing special about the property. Very crumsy

The property owner openly started criticising Indians when we interned the property. He said no one will entertain Indians except him in that area. And most of the Indians are thief. And there are cctv cameras to watch. I don’t know why he kept complainant about Indians.
