Love the gracious staff! Always smiling & helpful.

I hate those two gigantic white pots by the pool. Trying to visit with my friends and those were always in the way. I would get rid of those and get some smaller ones.

"Convenient, cozy, very helpful and pleasant staff. Wonderful stay."

9.0

The British-themed hotel is warm, cozy, and conveniently located near WU and the St. Louis Art Museum, among other attractions.

Breakfast? Bring your own utensils, plates, and cup--too much plastic for me. To the staff at the Cheshire, please think about real plates (we found some hidden away), or at least compostable plates, cups, etc. Otherwise, all good.

"Credit card fraud and a stanky room"

4.0

Decor throughout common areas

Room smelled like stanky feet. Someone on staff stole my credit card details and as a result I had to close my card a few days after staying here due to fraudulent charges. This is the ONLY place I used that card over the weekend. Front-desk staff need to be screened and monitored!!!

"Probably nice once, now showing its age and unmaintained."

6.0

The location is great. Right down the street from a terrific sandwich show and up couple blocks from Forrest Park and the St Louis Art Museum, an easy and pleasant walk away. The hallway decorations near the rooms are nice, and fit the literary theme of the whole place. Unfortunately that's pretty much the end of the praise. The overall atmosphere and appearance of the Cheshire is great, until you look past the surface. The cops hassling/arresting a guy in front of the main door. The taxidermy that is worn, broken and coming apart. The mediocre included breakfast with a tiny number of two-top tables crowded into a hallway. The bar and restaurant was actually just fine, but I wonder if they keep it so incredibly dark so that you can't see that it is as worn as everything else. My room was nothing but a disappointment. From the front door, which has veneer peeling off 6 to 12 inches up from the bottom, to the furniture which is some weird not-very-good fake vintage that is also worn, peeling, and water stained. All of the furniture has electrical outlets and ethernet adapters grafted on. Of the 4 lights in the room, only 1 would come on when I got there. I got two others working by plugging and re-plugging a rat's nest of extension cords that would make any fire marshal run screaming. One lamp just wouldn't work & it wasn't the bulb - I swapped it with a working lamp. I would guess that the furniture in the room was last updated in the early 2000s, and probably hasn't had any meaningful maintenance since before the pandemic. And then there is the bathroom. When I arrived the light was on. ALL THE TIME. Which was annoying at best, and made sleeping difficult at worst. There was no switch in the bathroom. After fiddling with the switches near the door eventually the light went out so that it was controlled by a motion sensor in the bathroom somewhere. Which meant while I was showering the light would turn off and leave me in the dark. I couldn't figure out which combination of switch settings turned it back on full time. All in all, a disappointing and at $140 a night, over-priced experience. Everything needs to be completely remodeled.
