Quality Inn Salem - I-81

The hotel is close to the interstate. The room was clean and included a fridge and microwave. The ice machine worked well. Breakfast was excellent!

It was a very comfortable room. It was quiet and just pleasant. We only stayed one night, but I would recommend it.

Could not complain about anything.

Staff were generally nice and efficient.

First, i have no clue how the reviews here are so good. This is a crappy motel that had small improvements, but not enough to make a real difference. The beds were uncomfortable, the sheets were stained, the bathroom had bugs crawling around. On top of all of that, the floors were strangely…sticky?… like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time and it had that general musty/mildewy motel smell. Breakfast was bad (eggs, biscuits and gravy were all cold). I know how I sound writing this up, I am not picky about where I sleep, but if I’m paying $100+/ night, I expect at minimum clean sheets. After a full work days followed by 6 hours of driving, I slept in and off for 4 hours and then gave up. There are so many hotels in this area, I would recommend going to another without even setting those in person (unless this one is massively less expensive and you’re prepared for it to be below average, for me the price difference was minimal, I chose it because it was 30 min closer to where I was heading).

The breakfast was good. I thought the eggs were exceptional. We did miss having peanut butter available for the toast. The location was convenient to the high way and easy to enter and exit from the street. the staff were excellent, very accommodating and responsive to our requests. The water pressure and hot water was a pleasure. the room was clean, the beds were comfortable.

I thought the cleanliness of the outside areas could be improved on. It seems the landings and stairs needed sprucing up. We thought the towels could be a little softer and fluffier. The rooms need a little updating, you can see the wear on the door jams.
