Nice and quiet surroundings

I stay at this hotel for two weeks every year visiting the branch I oversee in Stockton. I travel an approximate 110 days in a given year and I always feel at home here. Its all because of the verry friendly, attentive, hospitable and professional staff this hotel has. They are by far the best a hotel could have.

Better breakfast with fresh fruits. The fruits were very old and dry. Hot food was all non- veg and no steamed vegetables.

The breakfast was standard fare. There were scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, juices, coffee, oatmeal, fruit and cereal daily. There were some variations, but mostly standard. Nothing was cooked to order. The food serving area was always clean, the juices were always cold and the food and coffee were always hot. WiFi was free, as advertised.

Unfortunately, the room was a bait and switch. I made the reservation online using booking.com. According to the website, the reservation was for a king suite w/fireplace. The room was supposed to have a radio, fireplace, alarm clock as well as video games. Once we checked in we found that the bed was a queen (at best). The fireplace, the radio, alarm clock and the video games didn’t exist. My problem wasn’t that these amenities weren’t there. My problem was that I had reserved the room based on the amenities being provided for the price that was quoted. I was being charged for something that I wasn’t getting. After a discussion with the hotel manager, I was informed that the hotel doesn’t even have king beds or fireplaces on the property. The radio, alarm clock and video games should have been available but weren’t; but these things weren’t a deal breaker. Also, there are aren’t any ice machines available to the guests; this is not acceptable. What I reserved and what I got was very different. To the hotel’s credit, I did receive a price adjustment for my troubles. The listing for this property on booking.com needs to be corrected immediately before anyone else finds themselves in the situation that I just experienced.

Check-in was less than welcoming — do you have a reservation, what's your name, where's your ID, here's your key. Heck, start with "welcome to the Residence Inn" so I don't feel like I'm inconveniencing you by walking into your lobby. There was no bedding for the pull-out sofa and the kitchen looked fine — at first. I was tying my shoes and looked across the room only to see eggshells under the counter with a thick layer of dirt. Gross. With all the Marriott post-COVID "we're super-clean" messaging, it's more than a little disconcerting. I'll be traveling to Stockton a lot over the next few years, so I guess I'll find somewhere else to stay despite my BONVOY membership.
