Merrill House

What a gorgeous property. So easy to walk to all the restaurants and boutiques. We were a small group of ladies, I stayed in the Dream room. It is not only whimsical and fun, but a perfect size for gathering a chatting. The staff are all incredibly helpful. We will be back.

The facilities were lovely, the decor was beautiful, the rooms were thoughtfully put together, and the passport for local wineries was a great add on as were the brownies and drinks in our room. The location was perfect and the staff were extremely helpful and kind.

Beautiful home with all the comfort, interesting art and cool custom decor . The staff is very nice and helpful. The barrel sauna is a nice plus.

That we hadn’t decided to stay longer

Lovely dwelling - lots of little touches that makes it a great stay. We were there for one night and appreciated the stay.

I think we’ve found our new Niagara-On-the-Lake! What a beautiful place to stay… old, stately, but still somehow contemporary and fresh! We were greeted at the door and made to feel welcome right away. We booked the Victorian Room which was one of the original bedrooms in the house. Bed was comfy and we had water and local Soda available as well as a Nespresso. Bathroom was well appointed with a nice roomy shower. We didn’t take advantage of the fresh baked goods in the morning because we were still recovering from last nights dinner. Definitely a place to return to in the summer.

This was our third stay at Merrill House Inn, visiting for one night at the end of December while en route to another hotel for New Year's Eve. The property remains undeniably beautiful and full of character, and our second-floor junior suite was tastefully decorated and comfortable from an interior design perspective. The bathroom was tiny, and there was little storage for clothes, but that was to be expected. There’s a lot to love about the building itself, and it still feels like a special place when you arrive. That said, the experience has changed noticeably since our last visit three years ago. The inn no longer operates a restaurant and staffing on site is quite limited, which made the stay feel more like a guesthouse than a full-service hotel. We were told at check-in that there were “problems” with the heating. While our room did have a fireplace, it was supplied with only two pre-fabricated logs, which produced very little actual warmth. As a result, the room remained uncomfortably cool throughout the night. The following morning was similarly underwhelming, with a very modest offering of just coffee and a single croissant per guest laid out on the main floor. This felt sparse given the price point and the otherwise refined setting. Merrill House is still a unique and lovely property, but expectations should be adjusted. For our future stays in Picton, we would likely choose the Royal for more of a full-service hotel experience, or The Cape next door, where guests are treated to an impressive continental breakfast delivered right to their very spacious rooms.
